I think it is ridiculous for luxury carmakers to spend so much time and money selling mediocre cars with a fancy logo to people who wouldn't ordinarily comprise their customer base. The whole point of "luxury" is understated elegance and exclusivity. Take away that and you have the typical middle class poser ideal- unwarranted arrogance and a wrongful sense of entitlement. I don't even want to count how many times I've seen some smug poser in a C-class or 3 series terrorize the road because they think their hood ornament is special. At least I'm glad that true class transcends material goods.

I completely agree with the principle of your argument. Unfortunately, it isn't grounded in reality. You forget (or ignore) the primary function of a carmaker - profits. If promoting "true class" was their purpose, they'd all be bankrupt. As ridiculous as it may seem, those "middle class posers" have lots of money to buy aspirational luxury products and the carmakers rightfully take advantage of the demo. As for true class transcending material goods, you're right on the money - literally.
