Lux Tip: Make Coach Feel Like First Class

These days the cost of flying first class has gone so high it's gotten too expensive for all the but the richest of travelers. Coach fares, which by definition offer less comfort and amenities, are at the point where even the most basic of comforts like a warm blanket or little bag of peanuts cost extra money or aren't offered at all. It's getting downright ridiculous how uncomfortable flying can be!
The good news, though, is that with just a little bit of forethought it's pretty easy to make your coach ticket feel like a first class one -- without the first class hit to your bank account. Take a look at the tips in the gallery below and then share any tips and tricks you have for making flying coach easier in the comments

Unfortunately the biggest problem is the seats in coach are terribly uncomfortable and small. so the only way they're manageable is if the seat next to you is empty

If you fly often enough, albiet in steerage, and accumulate mucho points, one is more-likely (as not) to get an upgrade at the gate.

Remember those yarns about servicemen who, during WW II, couldn't buy a beer...there was always an appreciative civilian (or two) who, slapping the appropriate exchange on the bar, would say, "You're moneys no good here, Soldier". As a retired has-been Warrior, I often, while traveling, wear a shirt emblazoned with symbology representing my Military Alma Mater. Scurrying through XYZ International one fine day, a representative of the home town airline, upon recognition of my service, escorted me to the nearest service counter and produced a coupla brewski tickets... Thank you, Continental.

When my husband and I must fly coach, we request either aisle to aisle seats or aisle and window. If the flight is full and we get stuck with a stranger between us, we'll ask the passenger if he'd like the window seat. If the flight isn't full we have an empty seat between us and we put the armrests up!

It's easy to be comfortable in coach, if one gets the proper seating arrangements: Seats in the first row of the cabin or seats by the emergency exits will provide one with ample leg room. Just bring along a personal media player, reading material, a comfy blanket and cushion, some earplugs and a sleeping mask. And, Tada! First class comfort without the first class price.
