New Audemars Piguet Haute Joaillerie Pieces

Like fellow watchmaker Jaeger Le Coultre, Audemars Piguet has come out with some showstopper jewelry pieces. There are two sets of matching 18K white gold and diamond watches and necklaces for women, the Coup de Theatre and Carnet de Bal. Both watches use the AP calibre 2046 movement with manual winding (18 jewels) that beats at a frequency of 21 600 vph and provides 42 hours power reserve. The Coup de Theatre pieces are shown on the left and features a brick like arrangement of diamonds punctuated by an exuberant spray of bezel set diamonds. The Carnet de Bal pieces are more of a floral comet with brilliant, marquise, pear and baguette diamonds including bezel set stones mounted on trailing strands of white gold accented with gold beads. These watches don't look all that great. And seeing as the material they're using to create them are gold and diamonds, I'm sure they're priced way higher than a watch should ever cost. I guess I was never much for being a watch enthusiasts.
What I found interesting is that diamonds should actually be cheaper than the prices we pay, after reading http://www.diamondshandbook.com/ I have never paid another dollar more for a diamond for the premium of being able to say I bought a branded diamond.

I am not a huge fan of these pieces but it is nice to see large watch houses such as Le Coultre and Piguet thinking out of the box and creating jewelry which are a design mix of period and contemporary style.
