As my colleague Deidre Woollard reported earlier, the product tie-ins to the upcoming James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace, are beginning to hit the market. The latest is from famed French champagne house Bollinger, founded in 1829. Bollinger has been featured in Bond films as 007's favorite celebratory tipple since Moonraker back in 1979.
Conceived by French designer Eric Berthès, the lockable steel bullet-shaped case engraved "Bollinger 007" holds a magnum of Bollinger's Grande Année 1999 champagne.
Packaged in a wooden box, the whole weighs over 50 pounds and costs about $5,800; only 207 numbered Bullets will be produced.

I believe Bond was drinking Bollinger at least since Goldfinger, long before Moonraker. In fact it was Bond's desire for a properly chilled Bollinger (if too warm it is like "listening to the Beatles with out ear muffs!") that allowed Odd-Job to get the drop on him. He may have even been drinking Bollinger in the picnic scene at the beginning of From Russia with Love next to his Bentley.

Bollinger's website dates the product placement to Moonraker, thanks to one of the owners' friendship with Bond producer "Cubby" Broccoli, though it's quite possible it appeared prior to that. According to the James Bond Encyclopedia Bond drinks Dom Perignon '55 in Goldfinger.

While it's true that Bond enjoyed Bollinger long before Moonraker, Connery's bond also frequently ordered, mentioned, or was seen drinking Dom Perignon. I think what the writer means is that since Moonraker, Bollinger has had an exclusive arrangement as Bond's preferred Champagne.
