Gladwyne Pennsylvania, Estate of the Day

Today's estate is another reader submission. Luxist reader Michael brought my attention to this huge home, 22,000 square feet of interior space in the posh town of Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. This six-bedroom home is grandly extravagant. It has a sunken living room, formal dining room, large kitchen, billiards room, family room, gym, , a Jacuzzi set in its own gazebo, and an office with a private bath and sauna. There are both indoor and outdoor pools, a huge master suite with an elaborate bathroom, and an entire level given over to recreation with the indoor pool, in-home media room that seats 20, massage room, and additional live-in apartment. The listing says the home cost $22 million to build but it is listed through Maxwell Realty for $19.5 million.

Gawd awful--this house has no idea what it wants to be. And the decor only emphasizes its mania. The indoor pool looks nice and the exteriors shots are nice, but too many rooms have funny shapes and weird columns--no where for the eye to rest. Awful.

I agree completely. What's with the balcony looking *down* on the canopy bed? Lots of weird levels for no apparent reason. Love the balustrade, but the rest of this house makes me dizzy.

I think many rooms in this house are absolutely amazing. I'm usually a fan of modern design, but this house was quite nice...except the kitchen - there was just too much going on in there.

I love the wrought iron stair railings, marble floors, and large marble columns. The decor is my style and the house is very regal. This has to be one of the grandest mansions in Pennsylvania!

I love this house because it's not a bad reproduction of something European and you know that WAS an option.
That attic is wonderful - clever ceiling treatment.
Most of the furniture actually works for this house, but a few of the bedroom photos look like they were purchased as suites.
The kitchen needs to lose that hanging crap over the island.
Some of the lighting fixtures (billiard & dining rooms) are way too big for the space.
They've done a good job incorporating technology; it's not hidden, but it doesn't dominate the whole house.
