The Democratic and Republican National Conventions are over and now the real political campaigns begin in earnest. Increased attention has been focused on the fashions of the potential first ladies, Cindy McCain and Michelle Obama. As we recently reported, Vanity Fair tallied up the cost of one of Cindy McCain's outfits finding that it topped $300,000 (helped along by a pair of $280,000 diamond earrings). While current First Lady Laura Bush sometimes wears a single strand of pearls, Cindy McCain upped that look, wearing her glowing four-strand pearl necklace on several key RNC occasions including the speech introducing her husband.
Michelle Obama has also worn pearls at several events but her signature look just may be the creative use of the brooch. She has worn a variety of pins on various occasions such as the flower brooch she wore on her dress strap when she was on The View, the cluster of rose pins she wore on her Thakoon Panichgul dress on the night of her husband's acceptance speech, and, most famously the turquoise and silver brooch she wore for her own speech at the Democratic National Convention. Both the rose pins and the brooch are said to be Erickson Beamon designs. Vanity Fair estimates Cindy McCain's four-strand pearl necklace as costing between $11,000–$25,000.

I guess with Palin's daughter on the hook for the public eye the price of the fashion choices by the first ladies is a small comparison but still something to be looked at carefully.
Does fashion choice and price of fashion have a direct effect on how their respective husbands will run the country if they were chosen to become the next president though?

It definately does. Think about it, C. McCain's fashion sense it geared towards the high and ultra-high end fashion, whereas M. Obama's sense would probably be affordable for many (if not most) women.
J. McCain is better (by far) for the rich and ultra-rich, whereas B. Obaba is better for the average person.
I'm not really sure what a person like myself (right in the middle of average and rich) should do.

The REAL question is..."What is Caribou Barbie wearing"?
I haven't seen any bear claw necklaces but then again she most likely ties her hair up with whale bone.

Michelle Obama's fashion sense displays a versatile stylish look that most working and business women could afford, while Cindy McCain displays the style of a wealthy woman showcasing a wardrobe that would be well out of reach of most.

Whose business is it whatever either one wears. Just because Cindy McCain is an heiress is not her fault. It just shows that somewhere in her family someone worked long and hard to create a substantial business. She should not be ridiculed for that. Each one should be able to make their own fashion statement and it shouldn't matter if we like it or not. It is what they are most comfortable in. They should be comfortable in their own skin and make no apologies for it.

So mean spirited. Just because someone has a life style different from yours does not mean you should ridicule and belittle it. Ms. Palin appears to be a well rounded good old American girl. I hunt and fish with my family and this is part of my heritage and what I am passing on to my grandchildren. Get a life.

Cindy McCain has travelled extensively in third world countries, participated in medical missions and adopted special need children from those countries. It is interesting that others who have given so little back should dare to criticise her. Sarah Palin is one of us!!!!! We love them both!!!!! They're true Americans
from different walks of American life.

What does "one of us" mean? Last time I checked, in order to run for President or Vice, you had to be an American citizen. I would also think that the Obama's are truly the American dream. The dream of coming from so little only to accomplish so much and achieve so many. I'm confused about your statement.

Also, what is a "true American?" Aren't we all taxpayers? Don't we all register for selective services?
Also, why is she over in other third world countries, when there are "true American's" over here struggling and having hard times? What happened to "Choosing America First?" Obama did. He could have had any job with his Ivy League education but what did he do. He Choose America First and went to the streets of Chicago. Something that Miss Palin knows nothing of.

You people are just amazing...
You bash them if they dress poorly
You bash them if they wear pants
You bash them if they wear real or fake gems
You are just angry and hateful.
Who cares how much a person's things cost as long as you don't have to foot the bill?
BTW... the writer's bias shows by no mention of a Dem's jewels and wardrobe cost. Which had to have been pricey as she does not have a typical sized or shaped body. She could not wear something "off the rack".
I think they all look nice, represent their husbands and or the position well. It will count for something. We all have eyes and do always, in some part, "judge the book by the cover". Those of you who don't think so are being either naive and or in denial.
