The Wyck Estate, Estate of the Day

The Wyck Estate in Manchester-by-the Sea, Massachusetts is another old beauty that has been on the market for a while. It had been on the market for at least a year when I first wrote about it in 2005. This is one of the most beautiful homes on Masschusetts's North Shore. Built in 1912, the main residence is a replica of a French chateau created using bricks imported from France. The 7.85 acre compound also includes tennis courts, a private beach, boat house, children's playhouse and a filtered saltwater pool. The home has been owned by the same person since 1944 so it maintains its original charm including marble fireplaces, plenty of carved wood and ornate stonework. This grand summer estate was on the market for $23.5 million three years ago. Now it looks like the carriage house is being sold in a separate parcel of 2.1 acres and the main home is for sale for $13.25 million.

The building itself is gorgeous, and the details in the ceilings and the fire places are amazing but it is hideously over decorated!

What a great and beautiful place! That's what I always thought a great Manor house and estate should look like. The decor needs just the slightest of updates while keeping it traditional. Too bad that they'll split the land.

That is spooky! I was looking online at this home only yesterday in other places; but I never did see the pic of the 'gargoyle' on the rail post. That is some kind of extra-spooky. What is it pointing to? It's details like that me enamored of 'Wyck' even more.

Oh my. Yes, please! I wouldn't change a thing - and I especially like the gnome-ish creature on the newell post.

Truely beautiful! I absolutley love old homes built in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The craftsmanship and details are absolutely amazing and could not be replicated today. The one thing however that does annoy me is that alot of these estates of the day never include photographs of the staircases. Usually the staircases in these spectacular homes are breathtaking. I guess I am a stickler for grand entrances...
