Lil Wayne Ordered To Pay Bling Debt
While many musicians love their jewelry some can forget to pay for it. Last month I wrote about Wyclef Jean facing a lawsuit over unpaid-for jewels, this week it's Lil Wayne. The rapper whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. has been ordered by a Miami-Dade Circuit Court judge to pay a New Orleans jeweler $146,000 for a diamond ring and necklace. Lil Wayne had made arrangements with jeweler Jack Sutton to pay for the pieces in monthly installments in 2006. Sutton took Carter to court because Carter had made only one $24,000 payment over the last two years.Carter may return the $138,000 ring instead of paying in cash. The Miami Herald also reports that according to a May 6 notice of federal tax lien filed with Miami-Dade County, Carter owes nearly a million dollars ($977,840.81) to the IRS in income tax.

Entertainers are often not the best business people. Lil' Wayne just needs a better accountant and business manager.

rap does not suck
many rappers come from the ghetto and that is how they talk about their life they rap to get out their anger.
would u rather them be out on the streets shooting people to take out their anger??
think about it.
lil wayne is an amazing rapper!
and i love him with or without the debt.

These rappers waste there money on such foolishness. they are all the same they thing jewels make them something and they are nothing.

This goes to prove just cause you can rap doesn't mean you can skip school. Learn about economics then pursue your career.

Why isn't there some form of witholding on these high paid, so-caiied, celebrities? IRS has no trouble snatching money from my check before I even get to smell the money. Make a good hit at the casino and the IRS will grab theirs before you get out the door. Even self employed persons are required to submit quarterly forms and payments of estimated tax. How do these people get this far behind in their taxes? Something is definitely fishy, here. Tom

I, for one, am in complete shock! Those of his ilk are usually quite good with their money. Take MC Hammer......

Know what we'd call people that wore necklaces and long/dyed hair when I was growing up? Chicks. I guess things change BUT I can think of no more superficial thing about a person than their "clothes". To worry about what strangers think about you seems incredibly shallow. If it matters to you, DO something that can't be removed in 2 seconds.

Problem is the managers and accountants they keep around are the ones they grew up with, who also didn't go to school and learn the craft that they are practicing.

Yeah, totally agree, they come after our money in an instant and even get one step ahead of us in receiving our money. And most businesses will get shut down or fined how come they can't chase this guy who has to have some sort of business license to start a music label company to begin with.
And yeah I enjoy rap music, it is music to me but a simple rap sucks comment doesn't help solve anything.

That's an over-generalization, that's not necessarily true. I think it's rather prejudice, and arrogant, of you to assume that just because someone grew up in the ghetto, and suddenly became successful, that they wouldn't have the intelligence to hire a professional to look out for their interests.
Any entertainer with some sense will hire a professional to manage their careers and finances. There have been plenty of successful entertainers, that don't hire family and friends to manage them, that get into trouble somewhere down the line. Also, there have been plenty of so-called "professional" managers that mismanage client funds - intentionally or otherwise - leaving their clients in dire straits.

"Blacks think jewles make them something" should read, "Blacks think J-E-W-E-L-S make them IMPORTANT", or a synonym thereof. We are not things.
"rappers are a bunch of loosers" should read,"Rappers are a bunch of L-O-S-E-R-S".
Dropouts, like you, are losers.
yoyo76 Aug 16th 2008 4:19PM
Blacks think people like you are very ignorant.
AJ Aug 16th 2008 4:52PM
Wow way to generalize a whole race based on a music genre. What a bigot.
Sarah Aug 16th 2008 5:40PM
Wow another rapper in trouble with debts and the IRS . Why doesn't this loser surprise me? Oh, because he's like the other rappers who thought they were too cool for school and thought they could get by just by their fame. Is this article supposed to make me feel sorry for him - or any other rich idiot? I've always loved the quote about: A fool and his gold are soon .... parted...

Newsflash: If you have to make monthly payment arrangements on $146,000 worth of jewelry, YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT!
Phil Aug 16th 2008 6:06PM
"N" just gotta learn to pay if they play. They will be screaming discrimination for having to pay their bills.
