Shaq On Star Island, Estate of the Day

I've been talking about this estate since way back in 2005. That's when basketball star Shaquille O'Neal first started trying to unload his house on Miami's prestigious Star Island. O'Neal bought the home in 2004 for $19 million soon after joining the Miami Heat. The WSJ's Private Properties column reports that the home was built in 1992 by Heat center Rony Seikaly. The home does have a certain gargantuan scale but that's not unusual in some multimillion dollar South Florida homes. It has eight bedrooms, an indoor basketball court, gym, steam room and sauna. The 2.5 acre grounds include a tennis court, six-car garage, dock, two-bedroom guest house and Shaq's pool complete with Superman logo. The home is lavish but not particularly distinctive, money used to its blandest potential. The price is now $29 million. If I were to take a bet on a final selling price, I'd guess that Shaq's going to have to cut a few more millions off this one. My guess is $23-$25 million.
UPDATE: The home was briefly off the market after a deal in the $19 million range fell through. The home is now listed at $22 million.
SECOND UPDATE: It is now listed at $22.5 million.

Is Shaq's home not selling because it doesn't meet local building code, all work licensed and inspected? No Certificate of Occupancy, No Sale!

This home is absoultely beautiful. I just love all the white which makes the house bright. This home has not one dark, gloomy room and not to mention not crowded by a lot of furniture which makes it perfect (too much furniture makes it a mess). This is the kind of home you only see in magazines. Just beautiful...another home you can only dream of owning dream home but never getting. Just beautiful!!!

Keep the house the way it is and just lower the price. There is always a buyer at the right price, and if they want to redecorate they'll take that into account when offering the purchase price.
Just a thought.

It's amazing how some people live. I can only hope he helps those less fortunate, and I am sure he does. It is so sad that some people have so much, and others so little.

WOW, being an athlete is not an easy job! Someone definitely knows NOTHING about sports! Most athletes train year around, lets see you run up and down a basketball court, you can't, so don't knock it till you can do it! Just Do It..... Work is work, however you get it done is up to you! Don't be a hater because your Job SUCKS! LOL!!!

Rest assured that you will not have to live next door to a black with loud rap music. Why? 1. I am sure blacks and whites alike don't you're kind arround. 2. Your expressions are that of a piece of poor don't have, want have and wished you did have. 3. Limited education, limited mind and limited everything else that one of character will have.

Why do celebrities, athletes, etc. (like Shaq) think they can sell their home for nearly 50% more than what they already overpaid - particularly in a bursting real estate bubble?
He'll be lucky to get the purchase price he paid in 2004!
$19 Million - Take it if you can get it Shaq! Get real!
J.D. Sep 2nd 2008 12:11AM
There is simply no realistic justification for the insane amounts of money athletes and other celebrities are paid.
It's pathetic in our economic times that such an absurd premium is placed on what they do.
Running up and down a basketball may be "hard work" as you say, but so is standing in front of a classroom teaching the future generations how to be decent people and to succeed in the REAL world.
People like Shaq are decent enough folks (and talented, etc.), but they don't really live in the real world - no matter how much they say they are "keepin' it real"........
You can't get paid hundreds of millions of dollars and relate to the common person, it just doesn't happen.....

I have to believe not many people would like his place not for the way its design but more so over the fact it looks like no ones ever touched the place. It doesn't look personal at all I mean yes it shouldn't be completely personal but it should feel cozy and make you want to sit down and relax not make it seem you should be looking at the room behind glass. Imagination can only go so far on what you're looking at.

You people are unreal with the "give it to the homeless" mess. Well, when you buy a new car and want to sell the older one, give yours to the homeless! Just because the man has money does not mean he wants to throw it away. How about if your neighbor won the lottery and decided to give his home to the homeless and made your neighborhood value plummet!! Or is it just because he has money that you really could care less and think he would just give away 20 or 30 million dollars. Most of these athletes do tons for charity as it is. Get a life and shut up with the "give it away"!
