Shaq On Star Island, Estate of the Day

I've been talking about this estate since way back in 2005. That's when basketball star Shaquille O'Neal first started trying to unload his house on Miami's prestigious Star Island. O'Neal bought the home in 2004 for $19 million soon after joining the Miami Heat. The WSJ's Private Properties column reports that the home was built in 1992 by Heat center Rony Seikaly. The home does have a certain gargantuan scale but that's not unusual in some multimillion dollar South Florida homes. It has eight bedrooms, an indoor basketball court, gym, steam room and sauna. The 2.5 acre grounds include a tennis court, six-car garage, dock, two-bedroom guest house and Shaq's pool complete with Superman logo. The home is lavish but not particularly distinctive, money used to its blandest potential. The price is now $29 million. If I were to take a bet on a final selling price, I'd guess that Shaq's going to have to cut a few more millions off this one. My guess is $23-$25 million.
UPDATE: The home was briefly off the market after a deal in the $19 million range fell through. The home is now listed at $22 million.
SECOND UPDATE: It is now listed at $22.5 million.

Well, at least it is down a little from the original asking price of $32M.

Now I see where Labron James got his disign ideas. After going by his home, and now seeing this one, I hope that the true homeless find it easier to sleep on the streets at night knowing that some americans can't sleep even though they have money.

How does your house look!!!

I agree. It needs to be freshened up a bit. It's all monochrome. Livin it up with a bit of color or greenery. Maybe he should have it staged by professionals.

I must say that Shaq definitely does live life like a King.
Fancy house definitely, was this the one featured on MTV Cribs too?

Yeah, it's a little bit plain - for the amount of money he's got he could do better! Check out a feature on Miami at http://www.gunpowder-magazine.com

Dull, yes!!! Its jus property..But realistically, its a far fetch frm getting $29... more like $22.... he'll need it later for the cleanup woman!!! Sheeesh!!! lol

I agree with you Nick. If Shaq were to spruce things up a bit, perhaps he'd get more buyers interested in the property. I also agree with the writer that in today's market, he probably won't get the asking price.

That's vanity.

Who could live in a house that looks like that? It's more of a museum.
Wanda Sep 1st 2008 9:39PM
You could if you had it, I know I could.

I am white male,65 retired. I live in a $185K 2bdrm house that is paid for and drive a new car. lets give credit where credit is due, the worked hard to get what he has it wasnt a gift. I sorely detect a bit of jealousy from those who dont like his decor, after all it is his house, the counter tops in his kitchen cost more than my whole house.I you want what he has go for it .
jd Sep 1st 2008 6:27PM
dude, wake up. hard work? he is like 10ft tall and he made millions running around putting balls in hoops - oh, and making stupid movies. forgive me if I am not losing sleep over his finances, much less his "decor." go to school for 10 years and work 8 to 12 hour days - that is hard work.

The comments above are from people who do not have clue what a $29 million house should offer. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
murchman Aug 29th 2008 11:34AM
Are you saying that you know what a $29 million dollar house but others who wrote do not?
Rather than use a word that comes to mind, I'll just say that you're...UNBELIEVABLE!
jt Aug 29th 2008 2:48PM
Murchman,
You have totally misunderstood my comment. I was replying to comments made by people that obviously did not express any comprehension of his estate. And, based on your ignorant comment, you do not understand the issue either.
Jackie Aug 29th 2008 7:03PM
well it's certainly big enough that he could turn it into a homeless shelter. Think of how any homeless would feel staying there even one night! Like they'd died and gone to heaven. Wow the tax write offs he would have!
Guess even he finds this house too boring to live in.
d Aug 29th 2008 9:44AM
oh the poor shaq can't sell his millionaire house. maybe he should donate it to the homeless people in florida. that would me a nice donation and could claim it on his taxes.
getajobbitc Sep 2nd 2008 2:14AM
how about this..shaq can donate his house to the homeless after you donate yours..see how stupid that sounds.
