John Barrymore Home, Estate of the Day

Today's estate is one of two homes on the market in Los Angeles with a John Barrymore provenance. The first one we mentioned back in March and the listing is here. Today's home in the Hollywood Hills has been dramatically refurbished. The 1930s New England Traditional has been brought into the modern age. The five-bedroom home was complete redesigned by LA based design firm, Commune. All the homes rooms lead to the classic European gardens. The outdoor area includes a saltwater pool, marble statues and topiary gardens all designed by Art Luna & featured in the February 2008 issue of Domino Magazine. I'm not madly in love with this one, the mirrored bathroom is a bit much and the home's overall palette is a bit stark but it's still pretty stunning. This home is listed at $4.995 million which is a reduction from the original price of $5.495 million.

yikes. Cute outside but inside would need a lot of redecorating!

This house has some serious mismatching furniture inside, some places have some shades of black while others are decked out in all white, and a house with too many white walls will require way too much house cleaning and maintenance for the owners.
