$65 Million In Malibu, Estate of the Day

I've seen plenty of big listings in Malibu but this one has everyone talking, William J. Chadwick, a managing director of the real estate investment banking and capital management firm Chadwick Saylor & Co., has put his Malibu home on the market for $65 million, a price that could be a record for the area. The 10,500-square-foot home also comes with 150 feet of beach front in the ultra-desirable Carbon Beach area, a 75-foot pool and spa, a wine cellar and six bedrooms. Other home features include a wall-sized aquarium, a master suite with hers and his bathrooms, a pub, a gym, a swoonworthy Art Deco home theater and a garage geared for the collector. For a home of this worth it's surprisingly tasteful. No Trump style excesses here, just a colorful and perfectly appointed beach house. Certainly for this type of money you could get more square footage elsewhere but it's a lovely home for those who want Carbon Beach cachet.

Very nice! COULD be a record setting SELLING price ... but there had been another property in Malibu for sale until recently that was LISTED at $75M on 5 acres (but not waterfront).
It either sold or was taken off the market.

It baffles me why somebody would want to pay $65 mil on a fairly boring looking home with no backyard. I realize you're paying for the supposed prestige of Malibu, but in the end you're getting nearly nothing for your money except an idea or a concept - that Malibu is for some reason worth 20x the price of anywhere else.

With that huge Silver Surfer painting, Chadwick is my hero.

Absolutely beautiful, one of my favorites. Wish I could live there. It looks like a home, not just a house.

Kevin, I couldn't agree with you more. While that IS a lovely house, theres NO WAY its worth $65 million (to me anyways)
a few yrs ago I could have purchased the CN Tower here in Toronto for less than 1/3rd that price, or I could decide to blow my $65m to have 3 x 100,000 sq ft Hindu temples hand crafted by master artisans in India, deconstructed, shipped here in large containers and subsequently rebuilt in tremendously short order by an army of cheap domestic laborers.......or 1 x 10,000 sqft "so-so" house sitting mere ft from an ocean who's level is expected to gradually rise in the next several decades, more than likely destroying this home and all those around it....no thank you.
that being said, I have to agree that as far as EOTD listings go, this is certainly one of the more tasteful ones Ive seen in a while. At this price range I'd tend to live in fear of being exposed to disconcertingly opulent, trump-esque interiors and tacky accoutrement's that would make even a saudi oil sheik blush.

This house is very beautiful and as it should be for $65 million. The rooms are very spacious and I just love the bathroom setting, the bathtub is laid out very well in the center of the room.
Could someone tell me what is the metal bucket with the stairs around it?
But what is with the price tag, $65 million for a Malibu place when all home prices are going down in surrounding areas, it touches every aspect of the real estate market and super high valued homes aren't immune to it. The economy is really slow and poor.

That's a stainless soaking tub, Japanese style. That particular model looks like the SoHo Bath. You can read about it here: http://www.neo-metro.com/products/tubs/soho-bath

Lovely home, and amazingly tasteful in its decor compared to some of the Versailles wannabe's on EOTD. But I have to agree with the other people here - it's way too much money for what amounts to a future coral reef.

No-one on earth should be be paying $65m for a house. I could probably buy 10 houses for $5m rent them out for an extortionate amount keep the money coming in while not really having to worry. All your eggs in one basket, Stupid!

Read my comments about this house you should be so proud even though I don't own one yet.

Great house that doesn't come off as a Savings and Loan bldg.
Better buy stock in "Glass-Plus".
