Hard Times For Hummer

For years, the Hummer from General Motors has been a symbol of American exuberance. The beefy road-dominating car was a freeway favorite for its spacious interior even spawning a whole fleet of Hummer limos. But with gas and oil prices at all time highs, the brand is in big trouble. In an article in the Baltimore Sun, new figures from Autodata show that sales of the SUV are down 40 percent through June. The Hummer has the dubious honor of being the worst selling car brand in America right now. Hummer owners are also facing increasing scrutiny from the more environmentally-minded drivers who see the car as a vehicular affront to green values.
Still, there will always be Hummer fans. Those who are very tall and those who have money to spend on big cars with low gas mileage such as professional athletes will always have room in their garage for this car. The Hummer's brash masculine style still drives people to showrooms but the recent economic woes have weeded out those who are not hard-core enthusiasts.

It's a good thing that this car isn't exactly what appeals to the general population or we'd already be facing $10 a gallon gas here in America, these monsters of a rolling beast definitely are not for the thrifty and environmentally conscience. That definitely describes their target audience, sports athletes who aren't thrifty nor environmentally conscience.

Those who are tall?
I rarely see tall people driving huge SUVs. Usually when I see a raised truck or a Hummer driving around it's being driven around by a short guy with a Napoleon complex.

These never should have been produced for the civilian market in the first place. Disgusting. And the drivers are even more so.

Safe and Comfortable. One has to drive one to love it!

I like the looks of the H2, but it doesn't have enough head room, especially in the second row. Although it is similar to the Tahoe and Yukon, the roof is obviously lower. The GMC and Hummer websites list the front head room at 41.1 inches for the Yukon Denali and 40.5 inches for the H2. But they don't even list the head room for the second row of the H2. I'm 6'3, and my head hits the ceiling when I'm in the second row of an H2.

First and foremost, they are simply ugly. Fuel efficiency be damned, they hurt my eyes from the mere sight of their transformer-like vulgarity.

As long as there are men concerned about the size of their "you know whats" there will probably be a market for the Hummer.
