Sting Criticized For Solo Jet Flight
The celebrities who espouse a green lifestyle often find themselves in trouble when they indulge in some of the privileges of the wealthy. Al Gore has taken the heat for his energy consumption and now Sting is in the spotlight for a private jet splurge. Sting took a solo flight to Germany recently on a Falcon 2000 to meet the rest of the band, The Police for a concert in Leipzig. A spokesperson for the airport confirmed that he was the solo passenger on the plane which can carry 14 passengers. He flew back to England less than 24 hours later via private jet but it's not known if he was alone.According to the Daily Mail, the Police was named 'dirtiest band' in January for the scale of their carbon footprint. It's been a tough year for Sting and his eco-actions. He started off the year by renting a private yacht in Australia and as I mentioned back in May, his Rainforest Foundation has come under fire for its record of giving. Sting also starred in an ad-campaign for the notso eco Jaguar cars.

Oh, so what? Sting paid for the flight so he can do whatever he likes with it. These tree-huggers really get up my nose sometimes.

Agreed!
They want the freedom to do whatever they choose yet feel inclined to tell the rest of the world to live a life of minimalism and guilt. It isn't just Sting but I guess they have decided to make him the scapegoat.

The problem is that Sting is a Tree Hugger...That is the hipocracy! He can keep his mouth shut and do what he wants. Once he opens his mouth on the podium given him by the people, he is fair game.

Most green tree huggers are hypocrites. Al Gore is the biggest. He espouses his hysteria of wasted energy, yet goes forward with a week end of massive energy waste with his global warming wake up call. He is now working in the Bay Area of California, making millions of dollars, while still touting his "green" agenda. He's as much of a hypocrite as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Whatever works for his agenda is what is right.

Yeah, Bill read the article....know a little something about the man. He started the Rainforest Foundation. It isn't about his ability to do what he wants with his money, it is the hyprocricy of doing this. Check out all of the activism stuff he has ... the albums and songs that he wrote promoting this stuff. This is not acceptable behaviour from one of the worlds most famous "tree huggers."

The most disgusting thing about this article is that there are people who actually think the Sting solo flight is any of their business! Now criticism of Al Gore is a VERY different matter. Gore is a hypocrite who needs to be exposed as the farce is really is. (Note: I have an advanced Environmental Science degree, so I should have a little credibility here!) Al Gore is a DISGRACE; leave Sting alone! He paid for the flight and he doesn't criticize others hypocritically like Mr. Al "Chicken Little" Gore does.

So, what's the big deal? Americans should know by now that 'greenies' and 'environies' make the rules for us peons. Their rules are for us to live by, while they continue their extravagant lifestyles.
Typical of all their Socialist/Communist agendas.
BlueEyesDance Jul 7th 2008 7:34AM
It is his business if he wants to fly alone in a private jet. If he has the money more power to him and it is nobody else's business. This green stuff is getting ridiculous.
Just Me Jul 7th 2008 8:22AM
so what?? what a stupid article

What's the big surprise? Anyone with a brain can see these 'stars' simply jump on the bandwagon of any current fad in order to further their careers and line their pockets.
Sting and his ilk are nothing more than a pack of inbread ego centrics playing off the gullible.

Who owns the private jet? If Sting bought if for business and personal use, he has to use it to reach performances in order to list the plane as a business expense. When I think of having to wait through the endless long lines, security inspections of my equipment (which TSAs don't know ANYTHING about), their smartass attitude in wanting to prove NO ONE gets special treatment, only allowed one small, nearly empty carry-on, and the harrassment of fans wanting an autograph, or nuts trying to snap my pic to sell to the tabloids... I would take a private plane, if I could.

Not everyone is "Green" the same as not everyone agrees with PETA! If I had the dough, I'd fly solo too!
Kudos to Sting for not letting others rule his life!
More should take his stand. How often are we told that we shouldn't care what others think of us? He's doing him, and he's doing it well!

Can you say, "Phoney"

Once people start waking up and realize that the "green movement" isn't really about hugging trees, but more about gaining government control over our daily lives via brainwashing (notice how many shows and a new television station is "green") and legislation through litagation and threatening scientists, corporations and politicians that have a "different" point of view (aka scientific method and legitimate research) the better off we'll be. Don't believe me? Just as a starting off point, try reading the book "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming". If you're truly open-minded, it will get you to think about what is going on and do a bit more research on your own.
Before I read the book, I noticed that "green" tended to be for the wealthy...just look at the cost of solar and wind technology, or the hybrid vehicles...many of these cars are priced out of reach of those that are doing the REAL polluting. Look at Al Gore (he barely passed physical science) and he is telling everyone to send money to pay for their carbon footprint...uh huh...can you say gullible? Especially since he uses over 200% more energy than the average person...yeah, yeah...he is "working" SO HARD for the green movement. If that is true, then he needs to get with Ed Begley Jr. and find out about alternate power sources since he wastes so much. Look at the ex wife of Larry David, she would yell and scream at SUV drivers, yet thought nothing of flying a private jet to NYC to go shopping! Now we hear about Sting....
I'm so sick of these people with their "Don't do as I do, do as I say" mentality...I just wish the "green" lemmings would wake up and realize that this country is getting to be like a cross between the book "Animal Farm" where some are more entitled, and "1984"..."Big Brother" is watching you.

With a bogus war and 4 dollar plus gas a rich mans choices should concern no one. Hypocrisy is pervasive in our society. Why just single Sting out?

to whom it may concern (which is polite for those who give a crap): i was A&M Records' staff photographer back in the Seventies and covered the first three tours of The Police, and, like Emerson, Lake & Palmer before them, there was never a more unlikely trio of musicians. Most fans do not understand that The Police was conceptualized by drummer Stewart Copeland and his brother Miles, who managed the group; it was Stewart's band. Prior to The Police, Sting had done everything from dig ditches and deliver the mail to teach school. All three musicians started out as unknowns, but in a short amount of time, the lead singer--as always--became the star, and with each new album and tour Sting emerged both as a musician and star and left Stewart and Andy behind. The band entered into its initial state of dissolution about the time that Sting started making really awful movies. But Stewart had obsolescence factored in from the start: in one of his very first interviews, for WRAS radio in Atlanta, he said that he "couldn't wait for The Police to become a dinosaur band because that means we will have made it." As Sting branched out (at one point he starred in a really awful Broadway production of Threepenny Opera) Stewart and Andy grew more resentful and by the time the band broke up they hated each other. They did not speak again until the Amnesty International tour brought them together briefly. The recent reunion was the obligatory nostalgia-fuelled attempt to pass the hat one more time among a fan base that has a few bucks but rarely gets out any more. But these three guys still don't get along--hence the solo transportation flap--and if they did, they'd cut a new record.
Now you know.

Sting always irritated me even when he was with The Police...he irritates me even more today. Double standards--guess it pays to be one of the "elite" huh? For those who throw their money away on ANYTHING he is associated with--you may want to get the Vaseline.

I think it is everyone's responsibility to do everything they can to help protect the environment in which we live. But, non one is perfect. Now, if Sting or any other Green musician kept repeating their mistakes than I could see it being a bigger deal.
