Trouble For the Eclipse 500

A spot of bad news for the Eclipse 500. The FAA has recommended inspection of the throttles on the small jets after one made an emergency landing in Chicago last week. The National Transportation Safety Board has said that there is the need for an emergency procedure for dual engine control failure. So far around 200 of the popular private jets have been delivered. The one that landed in Chicago had only 238 flight hours. The Eclipse 500 is the basis of a number of fledgling airtaxi services so this first hint of trouble has been received with some amount of worry by industry watchers.

I took a 1,500 mile each-way round trip in a friend's Learjet recently. He owns the plane, but because of the price of gas rising so dramatically, I was told the cost of the flight for the two pilots/gas/having to stop once for fuel on the way back west was approximately $18,000. His plane is smaller than my company's plane, which would have cost about half that to fly that same trip about a year ago (though we wouldn't have needed to stop on the larger plane).
The bottom is falling way out of this market.

The bulletin from Eclipse says that the throttle control that failed is good for up to 30 lbs of force.

I'm thinking that 30 lbs of force can be easily delivered by your average Hannah Montana fan. So an adult breaking this thing should be no surprise.

This is almost to be expected with a a brand new aircraft manufacturer. This would NEVER happen on the Citation Mustang.
