Willem Dafoe's Rubber House, Estate of the Day

Actor Willem Dafoe has a neat little home in Accord, New York that he's trying to sell off. This home has one immediately distinctive feature, its exterior is clad in neoprene. Known as the Rubber House, it was built for the late choreographer Eugene Loring. It's a relatively small (1,949 square feet) two-bedroom, tucked into a 6.8 acre plot of land. Inside the home has a sunny and spare look that is currently somewhat marred by rather cutesy country furniture. I agree with the Real Estalker Mama who advocated a " a more pared down palette." Still, any home with a tower has my vote. It is listed at $850,000.

850k!! You must be kidding me. This is supposed to estate of the day, not house of the day!
5m+ or nothing - thats how I see it!!

I agree with you, on that point. While the interior is nice, neoprene belongs on ipod cases and wet suits, not houses, lol.

To both of you,it is different, but I like it.Estate or house,I enjoy seeing them all.And I don't ever remember seeing your name on the laws of what houses or estates are suppose to be made of.

Small? That house is not small...

I actually live near this house-it's not as bizarre as the "neoprene" thing might make you think= It fits in quite nice into the "fauna" of the area- trouble is it's on one of the most twisty, narrow, busy roads in the area of Accord

Lucy, what do you mean by fauna? How does the house fit in with the surrounding animals? I think you must've meant "flora."
Doesn't neoprene break down? Sounds like maintenance hell.

I grew up near this house, too. We all knew it as the Rubber House but never knew who owned it.
A lot of money for such a small house. There are houses in Accord 2 or 3 times as large and aren't near 800k.

Um... it's a HOUSE... I don't see ANY solid gold to make it worth 850 large... it isn't even that pretty... and I though all houses were waterproof, unless you have strutural damage...

Dear God. I was in a production of an opera in 1980 that was choreographed by Eugene Loring. That's hysterical!!!! Everybody in the school of arts referred to him as "Loring." A tiny, lithe little man many people would likely best remember as the Russian jockey Elizabeth Taylor decides not to let ride The Pie in "National Velvet." He was also one of the country's most famous mid-century dancers and choreographers. He danced the title role in Billy the Kid. He died quite a while back. How cool that Willem Dafoe had the house.

Not small compared to what I live in--! I like it! Lots of windows, clean lines and totally quirky! But 850K, not in my lifetime :>) If it's rubber, does it wiggle in the wind (hee hee)?

some fool will buy it . lol

The land (almost 7 acres) in NY is probably worth the price!

I have lived near this house since it was built around 1973. The house is in lyonsville not accord That is one reason it costs so much.
