Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany's Brooklyn Home, Estate of the Day

Celebrity couple Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly are the latest to say bye bye Brooklyn and head to a posher address. Curbed reports that the pair have picked up a Tribeca penthouse that was listed at $6.995 million. Their new home is rather modern and bright, a far cry from their old home in Brooklyn. The nine-bedrom home on Prospect Park West is a turn-of-the-century limestone dowager. The home on a corner is full of the details you'd expect in a home of the time period, elaborate, polished wood carvings, plaster ceiling details and herringbone wood floors. There are fireplaces in the living room, dining room and kitchen as well as in three bedrooms. The servant's quarters on the top floor includes four small bedrooms, a full bath and a storage area. It has ben updated with central air and there is a large garden in the back of the house. There are no kitchen pictures and I do wonder if three and a half baths is enough for a home that is over 5,000 square feet and has nine bedrooms. Also if the furnishings in the Brooklyn house belong to the couple I think I can see why they want to move, Calder mobiles and flokati rugs don't quite suit this home. Curbed reports that the couple bought in 2003 for $3.7 million and are now listing for $8.5 million through Sotheby's.

I'm torn--I love their restraint in furnishings, really respect it, but the house does look a little empty. And yes, their furnishings would make more sense in a tribeca loft.

Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for posting these pics of the interior. The wood is so freaking fabulous. I want this house. I cannot afford but a girl can dream. This is my dream home. Wow.

What a grand home. Beautiful and you can tell there was pride in ownership. That said, I agree -- the restraint in furniture (although it's surely been significantly staged with minimal pieces left behind) is to be admired, but, the pieces are out of place in this home. I don't like fussy and busy furnishings, so I'd hate to see Victorian divans and too much velvet, but a Calder mobile, as you said, doesn't belong in this home.

A beautiful home. I just kept thinking.......funeral home. That is what it reminds me of. All those old style funeral homes where the wakes were on the first floor and the families lived upstairs. Sorry, but just my opinion.

Who cares?! Jennifer Connelly was terrible in the role for which she won an Oscar. I HATED that movie!

Who the hell is Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly ? I never heard of them.

YES...IT IS DEFINATELY A BEAUTIFUL HOME BUT.... IN A CREEPY KINDA WAY. VERY DARK AND EVER NOTICE HOW HOUSES LIKE THAT NEVER HAVE PICS ON THE WALL. NOTHING AROUND TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SOMEONE ACTUALLY LIVES THERE. NO PERSONALITY TO IT AT ALL. BUT, I WOULD STILL TAKE IT IF IT WERE GIVEN TO ME. MY CATS WOULD LOVE THAT FURY WHITE RUG!!! THEY APPARENTLY HAD KNOW ANIMALS!!!

The outside offers some nostalgic city-ish atmosphere, cozily situated on a corner, next to a taller building. The inside, however, looks dark, stark, cold and uninviting. Hmm, a decorating challenge. I'm good at that.

This house is to cold and depressing looking!

what I find most surprising about the furnishings is not so much that they're outrageously ugly (I've definitely seen far worse) but that it all feels very...generic. Like a hotel or something, and not one of the nice hotels. Suede-covered
furniture? In bland pastels? Where do I go for the continental
breakfast?
