Emerge, Charity of the Day

One day creating jewelry with beads... the next, helping young women find their voice. Emerge was founded by a young woman who as a freshman at MIT helped survivors of the tsunami rebuild and found her calling. Visiting a home in Sri Lanka for teen mothers who were victims of rape and incest, Alia Whitney-Johnson shared a long-time hobby of her own and found a way to help heal the girls wounds. She encouraged them to create things with colorful beads that were beautiful in their own eyes and along the way it helped them to find their strength. With philanthropic support these young women are sharing their creations and earning money for a brighter future.
