Most Expensive Zip Codes: 60610, Estate of the Day

For the next couple of weeks we will be checking out some homes in the most expensive zip codes in the United States, up today, 60610 . This zip code is in Chicago, Illinois. This zip code has a median price of $1,950,000 with an appreciation rate of 380% since 1990. One of the most charming areas in this zip code is Astor Street. Astor Street is a slice of Old Chicago, it began in 1880 and is home to 19th Century and 20th Century townhouses in a variety of styles. Walking down this street is an architectural feast for the eyes (for a little taste check out the pictures here).

Today's home recently underwent a five-year renovation resulting in this Art Deco-inspired home. The design gives his three-bedroom the blandly luxe look of a high-end boutique hotel. I like the building over all but not crazy about the decorating style. Your right though that area is gorgeous in architecture.I would mind having that one that needs restoring and the money to restore it! lol

I lived just around the corner from this place for several years. The exterior is nothing like the balance of Astor Street and is (with the intentional omission of photos) simply as dull as dishwater. Location wise it is next door to the residence of Archbishop Cardinal Francis George's sprawing estate - you can see from the one picture the roof of the coach house which is occupied by nuns.

There are far better homes in the Gold Coast, including others on Astor, of more charm, history, regal presentation, and refinement then this home which is more suited for Lincoln Park.
