A Sign of Tough Times, Paris Pawn Shops Accepting Wine

For the first time ever, pawn shops in Paris that typically accept family heirlooms and jewelry have made the decision to accept wine. With a minimum value of €60 required, the Crédit Municipal de Paris will give owners fifty-percent of the value and store the wine until it can be bought back. The building happens to have 18th century cellars below ground, providing the perfect storage area for the pawned wine. For wine that isn't bought back it will eventually be sold at auction. So far the most expensive bottle pawned was a Domaine de la Romanee Conti for €5,000.

I hope the froggies starve. They owe the USA so much and they act like their sh** doesn't stink and there just a bunch of lazy MF's who do stink most of the time. When they've paid us back for saving their as**s in WWI and WWII and Vietnam and N.Africa, etc. etc. then I might have a little respect for the frogs. Till then, fu** them all.

Excuse me, but didn't the French help the colonies defeat the British, so that we could become the USA??
Dawn Mar 30th 2008 4:13PM
please do not forget it was the french that helped with the revolutionary war. without their money, troops and naval ships historians contend we could easily still be under England's rule. in fact, they spent so much money on us their government went into financial ruin which direcly led to the storming of the Bastille and the French Revolution. (and the deaths of the royal family, including Marie Antionette) So maybe, just maybe, we could be even with them? before you make snap judgements, please delve into the history of the matter.

Hey things are tough all over the world as far as money goes. Due in part to the strangle hold the OPEC nations have created. I just wished I had the money right now to go to France and buy some of those goodies that are being pawned. Oh well, I am not any better off than they are. Between Bush and OPEC American's are getting themselves screwed. And the rest of the world is feeling it, too.

It is true that the French did side with Colonial America AFTER it was obvious that we were going to win. They have not been particularly friendly to us since. They shot at us in North Africa during WWII, and DeGaulle literally spit in our faces after we rescued his sorry ass and his sorry country from the Germans. The French have NOT been supportive of our war against Muslim terrorists, either... until the Muslim terrorists started burning down Paris. Now they are having second thoughts. They are fair weather friends. I would never count on the French for anything, including building an airplane for us.

I'm French, I married someone who is French...we are hardworking, we support politics/causes that make sense & yes we shave for those of you that seem to be obsessed with hair! Americans clearly need to read up on their politics! After all you elected Bush to serve two terms now...how humiliating!!!
Gloria Mar 30th 2008 7:41PM
You got that right. I was ready to move out of the country when he got elected the 2nd time. We Americans can be soooooooo stupid.
Karen Mar 30th 2008 7:48PM
I spent a week in Paris this month so let me enlighten some of you who only read snippets on the internet. The French are polite, work hard, and have suffered greatly over numerous wars.
The French came to the patriots' aid in the Revolutionary war because they recognized the need for separation. We have been allies ever since.
As for WWI and WWII, many French people faught and died trying to keep oppression out of their country. The French underground and the French resistance are still recognized today for their patriotism and heroism.
If more Americans would READ and discuss ideas instead of people, we would be a better nation.
And they do not smell; I had my nose disturbed by more Americans than I can possibly remember.
And I agree with Suzanne... and I don't need a translation!
Raven Mar 30th 2008 7:53PM
Grow up Suzanne (and shut up too). Honestly, if your going to curse and tell people to "eat $h*t" then at least say it in their face in english.

How can anyone not appreciate France ? The food is great. They drink good wine. The shops close up for two hours in the afternoon for lunch.Their government hasn't stopped them from having a smoke in a bar. Their dogs can crap on the street and the owners don't have to clean it up.You can see a naked woman on television and it's no big deal.Their women can go topless on the beach if they want. And from what I've seen , French women make an effort to look good when they go out in public .I saw more women in dresses in France than I've ever seen in the US, so regarding shaving- if you're wallowing around in sweats or jeans, YOU'RE probably the unshaven one.
