Most Expensive Zip Codes: 20008, Estate of the Day

For the next couple of weeks we will be checking out some homes in the most expensive zip codes in the United States, up today, 20008. This zip code in Washington, D.C. has a $2,820,000 median price and an appreciation rate of a whopping 393% since 1990. This zip code features many larger homes and its location makes it popular with ambassadors, elected officials and many others in Washington D.C.'s political scene.
The most expensive listing I found in the zip code is this expansive Mediterranean style villa. It was built in 1927 and has ten bedrooms. The home is on a little over half an acre so you aren't getting a lot of land here but enough for an attractive pool in a sylvan setting. The home was rebuilt and remodeled in 2001 and has lost some of its charm (the massive master bathrooms with their glass box showers and granite countertops are particularly distressing). More charming details include the windowed tower sunroom, rec room with a wet bar, exercise room and the bookshelf-lined library. There is an in-law suite and a separate catering kitchen. Located in Rock Creek Park near Embassy Row this home is one of the showcase homes in all of Washington D.C. This home is listed at $18.5 million.

I remember this place as well and live near DC in potomac, md. I really enjoyed the house there last week as I drive by that mansion everyday after work and wonder if it will sell.
How about having some more florida oceanfront homes featured on this site. Especially the florida keys. Manhattan Beach, CA is a tony LA suburb where my brother lives. There are some gorgeous home there, you should feature one of them. The main street is called the Strand

Gracious exteriors and landscape. Lovely to see a mature setting that has grown to fulfill the vision of the architect.
Interiors?...mmm, not so much. Why oh why must we see Lowe's quality recessed can lamps installed with reckless abandon, tract home-grade HVAC covers, and hollow-core closet doors in a home listed for 7 figures?
That kitsch may play in Scottsdale, but Embassy Row???...The architect and designer of the remodel deserve to be arrested for desecration of an historic landmark - and for God's sake keep them away from Hillwood.

I love this house except for the couple of bedrooms that look like they did not belong lol. Like the one with the twin beds. Why do you need twin beds in a ten bedroom house?

As a former resident of Washington, DC this is a lovely choice to feature. Excellent bones, gracious rooms, ample lands, wonderful neighborhood, and while a bit too little color on the walls it still reflects the superiority of a 1920's home over these faux mansions of 2008.

I was just in the D.C , Va area yesterday and I used to live in this area .....
If you really want to see something nice , check out ....
The area of Leesburg , especially Ashburn , and several other areas .
There's a area close to here , which I just seen March 26,2008 , it's close to Leesburg , gated community , waterfall when you drive through there .....
This whole area is so pretty ....very clean , grass looks like a golf course , flowers on each street corner .
Northern VA is a pretty place , Reston , Herndon , Sterling ,
Falls Church , Great Falls , Chantilly , and many other cities .
Only one draw back ...cost of living sky high and traffic is horrible .........
I never seen so many shopping areas , just drive down route 7 , and you will found manyyyy.
There's an awesome grocery store will be built in the Leesburg , on route 7 . It's called Wegman's
IN my area you will not see huge stores or shops .
