Survey Finds High-Priced Wine Tastes Better

What is it about wine that makes us feel special? Is it the aroma, the unique taste, the funny-feeling you get when you've had your own bottle, or is it the high-price that gives us a rush of sophistication and a feeling of importance? Interestingly, the pleasure we take in sipping a glass of vino in strongly tied to the price tag it bears. The same wine can be set in two cups, tagged with two prices, and the higher of the two will reign supreme in the pleasure centers of our brain. This study of neuroeconomics may influence restaurants and retailers alike but it comes with a caution sign -- some of us feel more guilt over the high tab and will choose less expensive wine to suit our wallets.

Probably part of the experience of higher-priced wine is the feeling that you are treating yourself to something luxurious - it is trading up.

Cain Cuvee, Stags leap Wine Cellars "Cask 23", 2003 Opus One actually I could go on and on but.....although I have found some wonderful inexpensive wines in the last year. Estancia's Meritage is nice at about $30 a bottle or even Napa Cellars Zin is great at $20 a bottle. You don't have to rape your wallet to find an elegant bottle of wine. Go to as many tastings as you can and taste, listen and learn!!!

It's not only the wine, but the proper wine glass. The glass makes all the difference in the world when drinking a good bottle of wine. I went to a wine tasting of Australian wines with Riedel wine glasses also being promoted. We drank the wine from "restaurant" type wine glasses and then from the Riedel glasses with a significant difference in the aroma and taste. It was amazing!!! To enjoy wine, it's more than just popping the cork, not like Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill of high school time!!! lol

I recently joined Oriel Wines' monthly club. For $79.00 a month I get a new shipment of their wines, sometimes three bottles, this month it was four. I enjoy the service. The per bottle price is not expensive, but having it come to my home, all packaged up, makes it feel exclusive and top notch. The wines drink a little 'middle of the road' but I'm still enjoying it.
