Fine Wine Was A Fine Investment in 2007
I've talked before about wine as an investment, now Decanter has some proof showing that fine wine was second only to oil as an investment this year. If you invested in the top Bordeaux at the start of the year, your investment increased by more than 90%. By comparison, the value of gold has gone up 23% since the start of the year. Oil barrels increased this year by 47%. Cases of Lafite-Rothschild 2000 had a 91% increase and the 2003 and 1982 vintages rose by more than 76%. Other strong investments included the Montrose 2003 and the Margaux 2003.Part of the reason for the rise is the increased interest in wine and wine collection from Russia and China. The number of rich people has increased just as some of the biggest vineyards cut production, creating a nice case of supply and demand. There is no guarantee that the wine market will continue to go up. Like real estate, art and other investments, wine is subject to fluctuating market conditions.

Wine investment is a real safety heaven. The only time we saw fine wines depreciate in value was in the economic downturn in 2008. They dropped in price about 15% and came back up at a profit way before the stock markets where many investors lost 50% + in stocks and some have not yet recovered.
I like to think of my self as a professional investor. Anyone needing to consult or help with due diligence email me m.m@revenue.com I’d be glad to help.

Would a 1953 Chateau Latour be any good?
It's lost about two inches and it's been stored
