Upswing, Estate of the Day

This one is fun just from an art standpoint. "Upswing" is located in Coral Gables, Florida and is described as an art collector's dream. This four-bedroom modern home is full of light and angles with plenty of white spaces and glass walls. It's hard to take it on its own merits without considering the vivid contemporary art that dominates the space. In some cases, particularly the very bright office space, the colors may be a bit too much for someone with gentler taste. And the current furnishings don't look too comfortable, even if I am smitten by the bench that looks like a woolly bear caterpillar. I do, however, love the patchwork tile in the kitchen. Outside the home's gardens are home to orchids, a pool, fountain and a waterfall. It is listed at $4 million.

I am the Realtor whose listing you have featured. Thanks for noting this property in your Blog.
I have seen this house without artwork adorning its walls and it is still compelling, architecturally. The scale of the rooms and the interesting interplay of the light, with the gardens in the background boggle the mind. And for every piece of furniture that seems a bit austere, are two yummy pieces in which to sink down into with a good book and a glass of wine.
As far as the paint colors, it kept the house whimsical instead of too contemporary, but of course with au currant now in favor, a wash of white paint EVERYWHERE is easy to perfect.

Wow, there's a lot going on in this house, needs a serious editing. The outdoor spaces are more compelling and interesting than those garish interior shots--you can't even notice the rooms for the riot of colors and art.

It's got good bones but needs a serious gutting. Keep the landscaper, fire the decorator. Also, for that kind of money I'd rather have something in Gables Estates.
