Big Boi's $50,000 Sneakers
We've seen diamonds on sneakers before in the form of removable accessories like the Kickbars and Ends for your laces but Outkast's Big Boi is the proud owner of a pair of $50,000 Nikes with the diamonds studded on to the shoe. Big Boi, whose real name is Antwan Patton, received the shoes this week for free from Atlanta retailers Laced Up Boutique and Priyya and Chintans Diamonds. The sneakers are Air Force 1 "So Cals" which have been jazzed up with 11 carats worth of champagne diamonds around the Nike swoosh (check out the big picture in the gallery below for detail). The shoes without the fancy upgrade sell for $225.The $50,000 shoes are available for special order and you can get a pair in time for Christmas if you order soon. It three to four weeks to complete the jewelry work.

WHY?
gee, i hope whoever buys a pair can wear them christmas day when they go volunteer at a soup kitchen. homeless people love to look at diamonds while they eat. especially children at shelters. sparkly things are their favorite!
i hope whoever wears them, their feet rot and fall off.

Whoever buys $50K should have to give $10M to the poor! Nike should be ashamed of themselves. I wouldn't even by the $225 pair. I'm glad I found better shoes when I went to the beach. New Balance shoes are more comfortable, cheaper, and last longer than Nikes. Nike sucks!!!

Some people have too much money. This kind of conspicuous consumption makes people hate Americans.
I buy most of my stuff at an online shopping
mall that gives me between 5-55% back in cash on all my purchases.
There are over 1000 stores including Sephora, Apple, The Gap, Target (great for soo much), Macy's. I also wait for sales so I get my cash back and the lowest price
http://www.dailyoink.com The site is ugly, but well worth it.

People that wear those out are looking to get killed for their shoes.

I add my dismay that anyone can't figure out how to use thier 50,000 dollars in a more productive way. While the first amendment protects our freedom of expression, and thus shopping and spending, it unfortunately can't legislate or teach commonsense, sensitivity, generosity, kindness, or judgment. Education and society does.

big boi got the shoes for free, and the boutique priyya... added the diamonds, not nike. so get your info right before you start pointing fingers.
other than that, the shoes/diamonds is money ill-spent when there are more important things to spend ones money(when you have $50,000 to spend) like charities, some poor child's future college tuition, etc. all this does is endorses the fact that americans are materialistic whores.

Why, do some of you care how others spend their money? Don't hate them just because $50,000 seems like a lot to you. There was a huge sum of Americans that made over $400-$500 million a MONTH Last year according to Forbes. They created thousands of jobs, etc. That's over $20 million a day! If some people wanna blow "pocket change" on sneakers do not hate them because that's half of your yearly salary.
I think it's great knowing that in America some people can blow this amount on sneakers but others can't make it even with Democrats throwing our hard earned tax money at losers everyday. I LOVE THE USA!! I HATE THE HATERS!

What a waste....To think that there are children that are going to be celebrating this holiday season with no food and no presents, while other people are trying to sell a pair of sneakers that probably cost about $2.50 to make for $50,000 just because they put diamonds on it, and some idiot rapper named "Big Boi" is endorsing them. What a loser. If wanted to make a statement, he should personally donate 50k to a seasonal charity instead of looking like a pompous fool.

That's my dude I 100% agree.

I WIL NEVER EVER BUY NIKES AGAIN !!!!!!!!
ebz Dec 3rd 2007 3:08PM
David shut the hell up......
Anyways Big Boi you are a great lyricist but my dude this sh-t is plain ol' ignorant..... 50K for some shoes?! Donate it to something important like to Katrina Victims..... helping find a cure for HIV/AIDS, United Negro College Fund something that helps your damn people.

that is crazy they can give me that money and my kids so we can have a home to live in . i work seven days a week so i can pay my rent and bills . crazy people like them buy shoes for fun but they don't think about helping people in need . that money could of helped so many people for thanksgiving that had no food to eat . im divorced i have 2 kids and i know how hard some people have it to not have food to eat . i even went to the state for help and they didn't want to help me . they said togo a shelter. so someone that wants to buy the shoes should think first.

Firstly, paying $50,000 for a pair of sneakers is beyond foolish. I feel like a fool having to remind anyone that such an act is foolish.
Secondly, and more-importantly, have a gander at the diamonds GLUED to the shoes... they're crooked and it appears as if the diamonds will be left on the side of the road once the fool's (the guy who actually purchases these things) pant-leg "slightly brushes" against them. I can see these things popping off if someone walks down the street or sprints up a flight of stairs.
I'd much rather pay the $225, which is just as foolish, and get the same look, if I were a fashion-challenged idiot, with a $3 pack of rhinestones. Then, use the "change," all $49,772 and purchase a brand-new Buick Enclave. Then, use the change from that (est. $10,000), and put it in a CD or mutual fund.
And, let's not forget about tax- paying over $4,000 in sales tax for sneakers should deter even the most foolish fool.
Vroom, Vroom!

I'm sure Mr. Big Boi is a great philanthropist who will quickly put these sneakers up for auction and donate the money to the less fortunate. He looks well educated, and I assume with a name like "Big Boi" and the way he is dressed in the photo he must be a CEO of a Fortune 500 company or a research scientist with at least a PhD to follow that name...let's face it there is absolutely zero incentive for education in this country! Conspicuous consumption, retched excess, and a 9th grade education goes a lot further than hard work and studying!

Here is a quote from the genius himself..."What job did you want when you were five-years-old?
Big Boi: I wanted to be a vetinarian [vet], when I was a real little kid. Then when I moved on when I was in high school I was going to go to school and become a child psychologist. But music took off and I had a different calling so here we are right now"
Gee I can't imagine why he didn't make it to "vetinarian"school?
