Craftsman 22k Gold Plated Wrench Set

Guys always love tools, and although getting wrenches is almost always useful (they get left and lost everywhere) it's hardly exciting -- getting more wrenches is kinda like getting more socks: oh yay. But these wrenches are something else altogether: available from Sears, this Craftsman 4 pc. set of full polish reversible ratcheting standard wrenches is fully plated in 22k gold. Set comes in an engraved walnut display box and is adorned with the 80th anniversary logo. A truly unique luxury gift for the guy who's got everything! $119.99

I wonder if their lifetime warranty still applies? The best part is, these are still Craftsman wrenches, so you could actually use them if you wanted to.

Why???
kelly Nov 20th 2007 6:39AM
if you really used those tool, wouldnt the gold plating come off??? i think theyre just for show, for the mechanic that has everything.

I tend to be more practical about shopping and gift buying........and even earn something for doing that: and so can you

Snap on tools did the same thing a few years ago nice conversation piece while hanging 'round the old tool box

I THINK THESE WRENCHES ARE REALLY COOL LOOKING, BUT I AGREE WITH KELLY (#3 ABOVE), I THINK THEY WOULD APPARENTLY JUST BE FOR SHOW. GOLD TENDS TO BE REALLY SOFT, ESPECIALLY ANYTHING ABOVE 14K GOLD. THE PLATING WOULD SURELY COME OFF, BUT THEN AGAIN, SINCE THEY ARE CRAFTSMAN, ONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO RETURN THEM IF THEY GET MESSED UP, RIGHT? IF I HAD THEM, I WOULDN'T USE THEM, BUT THEY ARE PRETTY NICE TO LOOK AT I GUESS. I SUPPOSE I WOULD RATHER USE THE $119.99 AND BUY MORE "REGULAR" TOOLS THAT ARE NOT SO "CLASSY". I CAN ALWAYS USE A NEW SET OF REGULAR WRENCHES OR SCREW DRIVERS, DRILL-BITS AND SUCH. I ALWAYS SEEM TO HAVE ONE OR TWO THAT SOMEHOW GET "LOST", AND DOESN'T THAT JUST PISS YOU OFF WHEN YOU ARE WORKING ON SOMETHING AND THE ONE YOU NEED IS LOST AND IT TAKES YOU 10 TIMES LONGER TO FIND THE THING THAN IT DOES TO DO THE JOB YOU NEED IT FOR? HA! THAT ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE THE CASE WITH ME AT LEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice but who wrote the headding ... gifts "A LITTLE MORE THAN $25"? Should be "STUPID GIFTS" I am a mechanic and would not waste my money on SHOW SET and would never use. Do you tink that using a gold wrench would mean that you would have to pay the mechanic more, I think not.

I think that is an obscene item. If you have so much extra money you can buy gold plated tools, why don't you donate it to people who don't have food.
I don't have money to throw around, but like to dress like I do. I shop for bargains. I shop through an online shopping mall that has over 1000 stores (including Macy's, The Gap, Apple, Target, Sephora, DELL, Best Buy..most of the biggies) that gives you back 5-55% in cash on all your purchases. It is free to join and if you recommend friends you get more! http://www.dailyoink.com

I think this is one stupid gift.
Jim Nov 20th 2007 10:08AM
This is not practical for use but would make a great gift for a retiring mechanic, or "mechanic of the month" or something like that. For a retiree, would sure be more appropriate than the ever present watch (NOTE: We retirees don't need to know what time it is on a regular basis).

People already tremble over the cost of car repairs. Better have plenty custodial products and air spray around when they see a mechanic with Gold tools. "Thay will be $2500.00 for the tire rotation". "That is $50 for the rotation and $2450 tool depreciation charge, Thanks". I watched my Dad repair a car using a screw driver, pliers, open end wrench and a hammer. In those days you had 12" - 16" clearance around the engine.

My, how simply elegant. I know people who buy fancy plates, but consider them too valuable to eat from... or who have a nice tomcat, but cut off his claws and his balls... I would use my gold tools every time, and as they (and I) grow old together, I'll see the results of my work in the places where the gold wears through, giving it what antique dealers call "character"...

And foida'more, youse guys, I'd say anybody who would beat up a set of tools like that, gold or not, in using them just doesn't use them correctly -- likely the ham-fisted ape with the "bigger hammer and a chunk of cheater pipe" style of mechanix... used right, even daily, those wrenches will outlast you.

and we wonder why no one here in the usa has jobs! get real gold on tools and the price!
Ed Nov 20th 2007 12:03PM
Looks like the inside of the wrench is not plated,,might look better longer than you think. I bet they sell!

I especially like the comment about donating the money and then dressing like the person has money, followed by a shameless ad for a website. I could say the same thing about all the computers that are being used to type these meaningless comment, all of which cost more than $119. Don't you get it? We buy stuff because we like STUFF. In the end, not much of ANYTHING we own is actually a necessity, and is therefore as worthless as those guilded tool sets. Remember in 2nd grade when we learned about mankind's 3 basic needs: food, clothing, and shelter? Well, think about all the stuff we own that goes way beyond a needs basis. If you want to really make a difference, get off of your computer and start going out to homeless shelters and feeding those people yourself. If you don't want to, that's up to you. But reverting to an ad hominen fallacy to try and change someone's mind is wrong.

Are these made in China also ?
Lorand Welch Nov 20th 2007 9:02PM
come on, everyone missed the clue. Gift, give a gift to the people whom could apprediate these wrenches. A true mechanic would be proud to get these wrenches, just to have in his tool box to show co workers and conversation what would last as long as one would stand by that tool box. I don't think they were ever meant to be used, just to stand back and appreciate the good warm feeling of having them to show. I think a good mechanic would love to have as a gift, but doubt if they would buy for there own use. Thank You.
Jim Nov 20th 2007 4:55PM
Gee, I would just go to www.mydisplaycase.com and buy a gold plated ship model display case and put those tools right in side to display them like a collectable!
What will they think of next?
