Marion Hall, Estate of the Day

We are back to Tuxedo Park, New York, a village that is home to some of the most beautiful older homes in the U.S. We've checked out a couple of them before, now let's look at handsome Marion Hall. The home was designed by the prestigious architectural firm of Hoppin & Koen for Wall Street moneyman John Harris in 1910. The Georgian-style home sits on six lakefront acres and is over 12,000 square feet of space with columns, elegant modelings, 13 fireplaces and beautiful wood paneling. The library alone has me captivated with its rich paneling and fireplace. There are eight bedrooms total. This home is $6.75 million making it the most inexpensive home I've covered in this town thus far.

The interior is glorious and Tuxedo Park is a brilliant community, however the facade just seems so commercial and sterile. It harkens back to a badly designed Embassy which ignores the aesthetics of the facade. Perhaps the worst design by Hoppin & Koen which is ironic as Francis Hoppin (solo) designed the uber brilliant Edith Wharton estate - The Mount.
Note to Sotheby's: update your photos for those homes listed initially in winter and still on the market through the summer. The fact that snow is part of the images both detracts from the home and screams "unsold" for over a year. Seeing the property at either the height of the lush summer or peak of the fall foliage would help a little in selling this hulking mass.
There are other gems to be found in Tuxedo Park for a similar price point which are more beautiful and still impressive show palaces. They are becoming fewer at this sub-$10M price point, but they are out there.
