Most Expensive Wines Ever Sold By Category
We've heard of some of the world's most expensive bottles of wine before, such as Thomas Jefferson's which sold for $160,000, but there are many wines which have sold for extreme prices categorized by varietal or type of sale. One of my personal favorite's is the most expensive bottle ever broken, a Chateau Margaux 1787, tipped off the table by a passing waiter! Fortunately it was insured and the owner received $225,000 from the insurance company. It is also great to know that wine often is sold for a lofty price in order to support a charitable cause. In this case An Imperial of Screaming Eagle Cabernet 1992, sold in 2000 at a Napa Valley Wine Auction, went for $500,000, making it the highest price ever paid for a bottle of vino! Whether its a single bottle or an entire lot its amazing what people have paid for a great bottle of wine.

How can anyone be so stupid! To pay such a high price, for a bottle of Vinegar. When there are so many people in the world that could put that money too much better uses!!! Like medical,food ,clothing & housing! Come on people a bottle of Boones Farm will give you the same effect! And most likely taste better too!

The Napa Wine Auction is a CHARITY EVENT.....raising money for a worthy 'cause and if someone gets a nice bottle for their half a million dollar donation I say well done. PS the wine was donated by the winery or a collector so the charity gets all the $$$

did you bother to read the short story rexevey? it when for a high price to support a charity. good grief...the dumbing down of people is scary. also...a cab will not be vinegar in eight years but if you think boones farm is decent...you wouldnt know that either.

wines that command those prices are passed on and resold with no intention of anyone ever drinking them. are they good? yes. are they a quarter million good? no. they are good when the price goes to three quarters of a million. these are investment wines, like rare stamps.

Someone ought to explain to these folks.... there are some excellent wines available for $12-16 for 5 litres (box wines). Of course, having money to burn does not imply either intelligence or common sense.

First of all, this is for charity, so anything spent is a noble effort for a good cause. Second of all, why do people feel the need to judge others for what they spend their money on. I guess Bill Gates should give away all of his money and drink Red Dog to wash down the Ramen noodles. What is the point of living in a capitalist society if one doesn't aspire to achieving wealth, and spending the wealth on things that others would consider a waste.

Good job Martin. people lose sight of what our country is about, free enterprise, innovation and effort. I own some old wines,(nothing really out there like here), but when I have a dring, it is beer like Greg, Fosters though.

I would NEVER give money to charity...they give it to the enemies of my people. Besides, even if I could choose who got the money, supporting those losers is like trying to fill up a toilet...u can pour a thousand gallons of water in it, and it never fills up...
