Kelsey Grammer's Bridgehampton Home, Estate of the Day

Actor Kelsey Grammer is a serial real estate buyer. He often buys and sells quickly and has homes across the U.S. in California, New York, Colorado and Hawaii (for a comprehensive round-up of many of his transactions check out the fine work done by Mr. Big Time Listings). Braden Keil of the New York Post reports that Grammer has put his Bridgehampton, New York mansion on the market for $16.1 million. Grammer and his wife Camille, bought the home in January 2006 for $8.517 million. The home has seven bedrooms, a home theater, gym, wine cellar, gourmet kitchen and staff quarters. The 1.7 acre lot includes a heated gunite pool and spa and a pool cottage as well as a sunken tennis court. It is beautifully and elegantly decorated, a nice mix of the cozy and elegant although a bit too much white and beige for those without a fleet of dedicated housekeepers. Not a bad return on his investment. Nearly doubling your money in less than 2 years.

I doubt that he actually doubled his money was even close to it. Most of these celebrity real estate stories leave out the any renovations, landscaping or decorating that was done. And most of the time, that's hundreds of thousands, if not a millions of dollars. Then they are the taxes, broker's commissions, insurance, security and other expenses. Then again, he'll probably see a 25-30% return.

I can't knock him for being savy - if he sees where a markup can be inserted and there will be a quick buyer then so be it. Nicolas Cage is another big-ticket serial flipper. The music will stop so to speak at some point in that game. This Bridgehampton home is of good lines and isn't gaudy, although a bit too much use of white inside, but a very good clean slate to work with.
As an aside his Catskill region home in Andes, NY (Delaware Co.) with 188 acres is on the market too. Listed for $2,750,000 and its been for sale with no takers for at least a year.
It is nicely restored but quirky architecture and with furniture that just looks cheap - see the bedroom. An estate ("Broadlands") sold for $10M on the edge of Andes destined to be an international resort but clearly Kelsey's property is priced as the highest single family home by far. Listing link

Wow.... that home reeks of great taste, but so does Kelsey. A beautiful man with a beautiful spirit. I could only dream of such a spectacular home. I hope he gets at least close to his asking price. Looks like a lot of thought and detail went into his home. Someone mentioned "cheap" furniture..even IF it is inexpensive, it's still very pretty and very tasteful. Camille is a very blessed woman, but she deserves the best helping Kelsey the way she did when he was down. God bless them both always! Beautiful, beautiful home!

Damn ! Looks just like one of MY houses....!
Ken Oct 18th 2007 8:47PM
The house is listed at 16M it has not been sold yet, maybe this marks a comback in the real estate market or Grammer is smoking crack now

Nice crib!

Great house. Looks to be high in quality. Too bad the decorating's a big snore; truly the most boring traditional decor ever seen. The only comfy room is the library. Looks like his wife's decorator has no imagination, no taste, and no smarts. Stain-absorbing white marble in the kitchen is simply an ignorant choice, as is the very light stone in the bath. Hope they pick a better decorator for their next home.

a colorless sterile home lacking in imagination and warmth very upsetting for such a lively tv personality to live like that where is the fun in that house
bevan norkin Oct 19th 2007 5:01AM
a cold and lifeless house inside and out what a shame that such a colorful tv personality would live in a home like that where is the fun where is the color dreadful

My, my, my... this article certainly stirred up the green eyed monsters. We can only hope that it's just the approaching Halloween season that brought them out and not just plain ole ugly jealousy! The home is stunning, although I personally prefer to live surrounded with more color than the Grammer's do, it's still very, very stunning!
Why do some of you assume there was a decorator involved? One was never mentioned in the article! Maybe Camille enjoys doing her own decorating! However if there was a decorator hired, it is obvious that those insulting him/her have never worked with one! The decorator listens to and follows direction from the client...if the client says monotone...they get monotone!
Good luck with the sale of your home Kelsey...I hope you get every penny of your asking price!
P. S. To all the green eyed monsters BOO !!! Happy Halloween!
