Torre Salvans, Estate of the Day

Today's home in Matadapera, Spain isn't just gorgeous it's a piece of history. Torre Salvans was built in the 1930s on land ten kilometers from the city of Terrassa for a Catalonian family of industrialists. When the Spanish Civil War broke out the Terrassa City Council took over responsibility of the Torre,to protect its artistic heritage. When the Republican forces moved to Barcelona it became the residence of President Azaña until the end of January 1939. To guarantee his safety, a shelter was built in the cellar of the building. When the war ended "Torre Salvans" was returned to its original family of owners.

The ten-bedroom home has three stories. The ground floor is the public floor with a large dining room, entrance hall and a second dining room. The second floors are given over to bedrooms and private spaces. The listing does not mention how updated it is but the original finishes are intact.
