Grapes of Galilee, Using Jesus To Sell Wine

Using a cute rabbit or a kangaroo to sell wine is old news. Last week I mentioned wines with Hitler on the label; this week comes news of a wine importer going in a completely opposite direction -- it has Jesus on the label. The Grapes of Galilee is a new Israeli wine label aimed at American Christians. The grapes are grown in the region where Jesus Christ is said to have lived, and they are irrigated with water from the Jordan River, where he was baptized. Wine from Israel is nothing new, but most of the Israeli wine sold in the U.S. has previously been to Jewish consumers. In fact, the Grapes of Galilee wine comes from an existing Israeli winery, only the Jesus-themed label is new. As Ad Age reports, the importer, Pini Haroz, sees the chardonnay, merlot and cabernet sauvignon wines as being perfect for holidays and he is marketing it in areas with high concentrations of Catholics. The wine sells for $13.99 a bottle online.

Like jesus would care think about it so if Jesus who is God would not care if someone is selling wine using his image why are people so upset? and Rember jesus was a jew when he was on this earth and the bible says that the jews are the chosen people now it seems clear that a little help for a company and if you read the bible they are not making money selling in his fathers house long story short there are far greater things to be upset about

Hey, more power to them.
Remember that the Jewish people
are God's chosen people.
In Genesis it tells us that the
people who bless them will be
blessed, and the people who
curse them will be cursed.

God is already used to sell hotdogs. Hebrew National Hotdogs claim to be kosher and approved by a 'higher authority'. I don't remember anyone making a stink about THAT. At least when you are buying wine you are getting something in return, unlike when you give money to a televangelist so that his wife can have pink hair and a pink Caddy, and they can sit on gilt covered furniture whilst begging you for more money in the name of Jesus Christ.

Just because He said,"Drink a LITTLE wine "for thy stomach's sake.",now all of the aloconolics and drunks want to use that as justification for excess.

Please...Mad Christian is upset that using Jesus to sell wine is a marketing ploy? Christmas is the ultimate marketing ploy!?? Christmas was invented 325 years after Christ died...to help convince the druids of Germany and the Brittish Isles to convert. Why do you think Christmas is in December when Christ the man was born in March? And I'm not botanist...but I'm pretty sure Norwegian Spruce trees are NOT indiginious to Israel. So, if these guys want to use christ to hawk wine...whatever...

it's okay to drink wine but not to get drunk with it.. but to use God's name in vain is so wrong.. maybe priests picture's or pope for they like to get drunk with alcohol beverages....

THERE WILL BE SO MANY IN HELL BECAUSE OF BLASPHEMY.
IS IT WORTH ETERNITY TO YOU?
WHAT SHALL IT PROFIT A MAN TO GAIN THE WORLD AND LOSE
HIS SOUL?
THE LOVE OF MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.

Nothing is too low or outrageous for the world today is it? If someone sold Buddha wine or Mohammad wine (not THAT is a contradiction) there would be - excuse me - hell to pay. I don't think this will be a huge seller but I have low expectations of people since Bush became King of the World.
Susqueh Oct 9th 2007 12:41PM
Well, they got what they wanted to get, I am sure. A lot of free advertisement.
dave clayton Oct 9th 2007 11:45PM
Why not? Does it really matter?
It further degrads Christs' true meaning which has been misdirected since that first easter
Its interesting that it's an Israeelli (sic) wine.
Can it be blessed for eucharistical use?
Sorry I digress.
Let us think of all the things sold, throughout the millenia, in Jesus', name:
relics, wars, golden churches, pesants' production... probably slaves and guns and of course the cute little 'What would Jesus do?' lapel frogs.
How much 'kristian koolaid' has been sold and then drunk, muddying our minds, our politics and the true meaning of a prophet?

I wouldn't buy it because I consider the advertising sacrilegious. But other people can do whatever they want to about buying it or not buying it. I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God, and I don't believe he would like to be used to advertise wine.

Who are any of us to judge, or have we all lost the real message? Tend to your own garden and do what is right. Don't worry about looking over your neighbors fence, tend to yourself and your own.
Belief has it that in the end, the veil will be lifted, truth will be shown and the righteous will live forever.
I only hope to pass the righteous test.

We must be careful that we do not compromise jesus'name and character for our own financial gains. We acknowledge Jesus as a sacred being and even though he was associated with wine, that does not mean he has to be placed on some bottle that one may abuse and used to satisfy his questionable desire. Let us not loose focus who Jesus is and exactly what he stands for.
