Grapes of Galilee, Using Jesus To Sell Wine

Using a cute rabbit or a kangaroo to sell wine is old news. Last week I mentioned wines with Hitler on the label; this week comes news of a wine importer going in a completely opposite direction -- it has Jesus on the label. The Grapes of Galilee is a new Israeli wine label aimed at American Christians. The grapes are grown in the region where Jesus Christ is said to have lived, and they are irrigated with water from the Jordan River, where he was baptized. Wine from Israel is nothing new, but most of the Israeli wine sold in the U.S. has previously been to Jewish consumers. In fact, the Grapes of Galilee wine comes from an existing Israeli winery, only the Jesus-themed label is new. As Ad Age reports, the importer, Pini Haroz, sees the chardonnay, merlot and cabernet sauvignon wines as being perfect for holidays and he is marketing it in areas with high concentrations of Catholics. The wine sells for $13.99 a bottle online.

Thankfully, Jesus gave His life freely and salvation is free. Church is a place where you fellowship and worship...not go to "buy" into something. If your church is selling religion maybe you are at the wrong church.

Why not? Bush uses Jesus to sell a war.

Why not? Bush uses Jesus to sell a war/invasion.

Makes me want to buy it, plus they have a valid reason to use his image. I have no doubt that it will sell well, considering the region and history-I imagine many Christians especially will want the opportunity to drink from the area where JC lived and was baptized.

Excellent point, GWR!

Wow That is Awesome!
It never fails to amaze me how the Christians will take it to the edge! Hahahaha
They are very free to put whatever they want on a label. And this one works in a hilarious fashion.

It's disrespectful to all who hold the name of Jesus sacred. I don't mind "Grapes of Galilee" and all the rest, but PLEASE keep Jesus off the label and out of advertising references. The connection between Jesus and Galilee and even wine can be made easily enough by the consumer without blatant exploitation. Thanks.

#12 Jews may not be Christians but they are still Americans. If you knew anything about religion, you would know that they do believe that Jesus did exist. They just don't believe he was the Messiah. We do not want to take away Christmas from you but if our holiday falls at the same time we would also like to acknowledge it. It is people like you who will always keep hatred alive.

Haha Jesus Juice.
That is awesome!
I dont see why this is a problem
They use Jesus in a Horribly Tourtured and Dead state to sell Crucifixes
And isnt Cristianity sold to people by JESUS Dying on the cross?
It works on every level

I think it'll work out fine...I mean surely with all the profit they'll make they wouldn't mind donating 10% of it to charities right? I'm sure thats what Jesus would want.

No...I don't think this is a good idea. As a society I think we are going too far.

Obviously Bill in N.Y. is an anti-semite, so that means he hates Jesus.

The reason we don't have prayer or the ten commandments in school is BECAUSE we have Freedom of Religion. Christians would not like Muslim teachers leading children in prayer to Allah. Protestants do not want Catholics leading their children in prayer to the Virgin Mary. Those in the Jewish faith do not want teachers praying "in the name of Christ". You get the picture. And most of us would be up in arms if an Atheist refused to pray and told her students WHY. My daughter prays all the time...to God...quietly. And there is probably not a teacher of faith who DOESN'T pray for their students. The law is against authorities leading students in prayer and it just makes sense. Parents have the right to raise their children in the faith of their choice...or no religion at all. It is part of our reason for seeking autonomy in the first place. We did not want anyone telling us HOW to worship. Why is this so hard to understand?

This is blatantly sacrilegious. These Jews are abusing the image of Jesus to commercialize a product simply to make themselves money. Anyone of them who says this is simply to appeal to Christians through the holidays is lying through their teeth. By marketing this product, by their own admission, in areas with high concentrations of Catholics suggests that these Jews think Catholics will buy ANYTHING with Jesus' face slapped on the front. What a slap in the face to Catholics. What if a Christian exporter sent honey wine to Israel with Simon Wiesenthal's smiling face slapped on the front? The Jews would rise up and call the company anti-Semitic, and nobody would touch the product. Hopefully, they won't get away with this attack on Christianity, and nobody will touch the products from the Grapes of Galilee.

I don't see the problem in it. If you are worried about them using the name Jesus, don't be upset about that. Take your concerns and focus on the ones who hate the name Jesus. Besides, if you believe in trust in God and what his word says then why worry over that. God will take a negative situation and turn it into something good. This could be a way to draw others closer to Jesus. Jesus did say "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me" John 12:32 and James says, "Every good and perfect gift comes from above." James 1:17

Jesus would never advocate the commercial endorsement of selling alcohol...this idea is not only tasteless but also unbiblical.
raymond r.davis Oct 9th 2007 9:16AM
i think its just an other way for the winery to make money..
the jews never respected Jesus Christ when he lived and now they use his name to make money..
some people will do anything to make a $buck$..
