Newson's Lockheed Lounger Will Sell For Millions

Cutting edge design doesn't come cheap, and with every day, month, and year that goes by it only gets more and more expensive. Case in point: Christie's will soon be auctioning off the most expensive piece ever by a living designer. It's the Marc Newson Lockheed lounge chaise, and it's expected to go for more than $2.4 million next month. That's one expensive lounge chair -- do you think they'll let bidders try it out/sit in it beforehand?
This sale is expected to blow the previous record (also a Newson piece that sold for $1 million earlier this year) out of the water by more than a little. Would you pay that much for this seat?

UGLY, UGLY, UGLY. With a capital UGH!
Mikey, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you are in desperate need of glasses.
dchefwendigo, Mellow dude. This is how Capitalism works. People with more money than sense, buy some God Awful piece of junk and a portion of the money they spend goes to Christie's who pay their people with it and contrary to some peoples' beliefs, not all of them make 6 figures. It's the trickle down effect. It's to bad the trickle is so small but what can you do.

Dang. It has been my lifelong ambition to secure a position among the mavens of culture. Now I've lost out. Oh well, might as well kill myself. Sigh!!

There are some good rich people but its a great rarity that a rich man earned his wealth. Corporations are just vehicles to steal the labor of workers and distribute it upwards to the unproductive managers and shareholders.

I agree with Cody. There is a book called Wealth Addiction by Phillip Slater. I think the rich, most of them, are simply addicted to their own accumulation of money and trappings. I am a hater of these rich idiots who could not survive without their false image of power and wealth. Bill Gates is
almost an exception. I think the world is addicted to worshipping the rich. We glorify their position and wealth. To be truly rich is to have a life of
creativity, passion, and even peace. And yes I do give to the poor, not millions, because I don't make millions. But I do have my own company and make a good living. I will probably end up fairly wealthy one day. But I like to think that I will use my wealth in a practical, and sensible manner. And yes I am judging the idiot rich. As opposed to the sensible and caring rich. John Hathaway

To each their own, I wouldn't pay for it. But if a person earns their money honestly and wants to spend it like that is up to them.

It is 1:17 AM PDT and I guess AOL is asleep on the job or else they have a quiting time. Oh well, my comment wasn't important anyway. Let's hear a rousing cheer for OJ Simpson. I hope they put the c.s. away for the rest of his life.

Dchefwendigo, you sound like an envious bitter little dictator.
Even though its not to my taste, I firmly believe it should be anyone's right to buy whatever they wish with their OWN money.
My guess is that you're jealous and would do the same if you had money to do so. Blogs that cater to the rich like luxist wouldn't even interest you if you felt otherwise.

Whomever buys this is NOT a sinner, they are simply spending the money they earned. Starving children worldwide is no reason to not purchase that which something wants... whats wrong with you?

yes I said I would:nt by that even if I had 100 mill its ugly I just buried my wife of 30 yrs it was all I could do to bury her I wish I did have a lot of money maybe I could have saved her . instead of people buying junk like that they should try to help people in real need
