Maine Retreat, Estate of the Day

Today's home in remote Deham, Maine is a rather unique project. According to the property Web site, in 1994 Charlie Adams went on a hunting trip in Dedham, Maine. When he came across Mitchell Pond he decided to buy it and build his pondside retreat. The home, on 60 expansive acres, is built on a grand, if idiosyncratic scale. There are two kitchens, both with stainless steel appliances and marble countertops. The estate has 12,000 square feet including seven bedrooms. The home has a large indoor pool complex complete with a fireplace. The home was originally listed at $8 million, but is now on sale for $5 million.

ME AND MY FAMILY RENTED THIS HEAVENLY MANSION FOR TWO WEEKS.
IT DID NOT MATTER WHAT WEATHER, WE WERE IN HEAVEN. WE HAVE RENTED VACATIONS HOMES ALL OVER THE WORLD, AND NOTHING COMPARES TO THE SOLITUDE, AND LOVE, THAT WAS PUT INTO THIS GORGEOUS HOME. THE EXTRAS ARE AMAZING. IT SEEMS LIKE ANYTHING WE WISHED FOR, THERE IT WAS. THE THE LOBSTER, CLAM BAKE, MR. CHARLES PUT ON FOR US WAS SO KIND. THAT WAS THE FROSTING ON THE CAKE. ABSOLUTELY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE, ME AND MY FAMILY HAVE EVER BEEN. WE CRIED WHEN WE LEFT. OH WHAT PRECIOUS MEMORIES. WE WILL BE BACK!!! RACHEL,ROBERT AND FAMILY

So at what point does anyone say to themselves "I'd love to own a condominium complex - but as a single family home"? Come on! That is what the exterior of this less then stellar and overpriced home screams out.

I just can’t get past the façade as it is simply too ugly to really give it any consideration. Maine to me will always be shingle styled homes that work in harmony with the beauty of the rugged coastline. To erect anything that fails to compliment that is a disservice in my view. To furthermore charge $5M for it is almost repugnant.

I'm sure it was a beautiful plot of land and hopefully when the new buyer razes this structure it will be appreciated more.

I wouldn't be shocked to see this property landing in an "Absolute Auction" after languishing on the market for another year or more.

H... that's what I have to say about this house. H is from Hideous. The interior, the exterior, what were they thinking when they did that house!? A nice piece of land, but the house need serious help!! Maybe, and let's rephrase the 'maybe' with a good architect and interior designer we can save this house without tearing the existing one down. Please...

That is 12,000 square feet of cheap "builder's specials." I will no longer look at large houses on lakes and wonder what luxuries are inside. I've seen mobile homes with higher quality materials and better design!

I enjoy that there is a large room (wing?) dedicated to an indoor pool but the bathtub has to share the same space as the bed. Klassy!

How dare you people make fun of someone's idea of a dream home?! Just because it's not what your taste desires, that does not give you the right to be so cruel. I would say you are either not in a financial position to make such a purchase, or you are and have definitely let it go to your heads - talk about snooty! However, I would venture to say it's the former.

Interest it seems to be planed so all the rooms have a view of the lake very nice indeed. The only bad thing I can say about it is when doing a showcase photo shot please empty the trash can in the kitchen.

Jeeezusss, could these people find a little taste? I've never seen anything like this...what were they thinking??? It's clear, the rich folk's hired help was taking the day off on picture day. Someone, please teach these people how to make a bed!! This place is UGLY, UGLY, UGLY!! Raze it is the operative term here. I'm hurling my dinner....YUK!

As a single mother with 3 boys I would love if someone donate that house to me, what a beautiful place, the outdoor atmosphere is absolutly breathtaking.

I would bet a pretty penny that this house is occupied by a lone male...no female in the picture it appears. No female would be so sparse in furnishings...and ugly ones at that! Why doesn't some decorator offer to go and help this man...he needs all the help he can get if he plans to sell it anytime in the near future...poor guy! This 5 mil Retreat screams HELP!

I hope he has an internal sprinkler system...because there is no fire department in that area that could save the house were it to catch on fire...

What you negative writers can't conceive is, this house wasn't built to impress others, but for their friends to enjoy. It's "roughing it" for the lucky few that can afford something like this. It's what in my case would be a TENT, on a lakeside patch of low grass that I "borrowed" for a weekend.

This house is a monstrocity - it's the Super WalMart version of McMansions. A double wide trailer on steroids. Let's face facts, these people have absolutely NO STYLE. The materials are sub-standard, the planning is poor, the aesthetics are overwhelmingly appalling and the asking price is wholly ridiculous. Turn this thing into a treatment facility for drug abusers -- they're sure to go straight if forced to stay in this ugly house. The house could be appealing if all the ugly pine were removed, the bathroom closed off into it's own room, outdoor furniture removed OUTSIDE, the list goes on and on. The seller's will be lucky to get 500,000.00 (that's for the land). I wouldn't pay a dime for this design nightmare.

Whoever designed this, especially the interior, needs to be shot.

Oh and I believe that is a hot tub in the bedroom lol, not the bathtub, although even that is quite tacky.
