The Memoire1, A Mechanical Watch With A Memory

The watch blogs are all abuzz about the Memoire 1, a new watch from Maurice Lacroix that promises to be the first mechanical watch with a memory function. It has a simple dial with two hands, one for minutes and one for seconds with a disk to show the hours. By pressing a button in the crown you can switch the watch from "Time" to "Chrono". The hands and the hours disk then switch into the measurement of time intervals. Press the button again and it is a normal watch once more. It is even possible to toggle back and forth when the chronograph is running. The ML 128 calibre movement of Mémoire 1 is constructed of 537 components. Full pictures of the watch haven't been revealed yet and the watch will be shown at Baselworld 2008 next spring.

Big step for ML. With all the mystery surrounding it, I hope it lives up to all the hype it tries to generate!
Just as intriguing as the watch is the music from their video on the website. Check it out

People who aren't as au fait with the inner workings of a mechanical watch won't see the technical magnificence that is required to make this watch even remotely feasible. I am so entralled by the very concept. And because it is shrouded in mystery it makes it so much more alluring. As the previous comment held this is a big step for ML but I think this is a big step for horology on the whole.
