Villa Roberge, Estate of the Day

Today's home earns extra points for its eclectic style. Villa Roberge in Rancho Mirage, California has a little bit of everything. Old world, new world it's all here. The property include a 9500 square foot home, a couch house with a bedroom and a full kitchen, a garage apartment which is a one bedroom and a studio with a loft bedroom all on 1.5 acres. The main house is completely idiosyncratic with huge ultra high beamed ceilings and custom leaded stained glass windows. The master suite has his and her baths and a view to the lagoon pool. It is listed at $12 million. After the jump, I'm a bit in love with the oven hoods in the kitchen.

It looks like you are living underground in a cave. The stain glass windows are discomforting. The whole interior is creepy.

This old world gothic style + new world rustic style + modern furniture and lighting is really terrible. It's like eating a great steak mixed with some rocky road icecream topped with cognac. great on their own but should not be put together. Easily the worst house ive seen here.

It needs a few more windows to let some light in but I dig it. It's different, eclectic & lacking the "look at me, I'm rich" pretensiousness that is usually found in estate homes. Refreshing. Artistic. Two thumbs up.

I also like this house. I would get rid of the carpets (is that zebra print in the loft?) and the wall hangings and paintings. Guess I am just not a rooster person.
