Chateau, Texas Style, Estate of the Day

What is it about Texas that seems to inspire people to build chateau-style homes there. You get it in South Florida too but the Texan version always seems a bit more elaborate, striving more for a Disneyed-up fantasy than versimilitude. Today's home, in Frisco, Texas is French luxury, gated community style. The home is on 1.36 acres and boasts marble floors and walls and all sorts of grand space including a large kitchen, sumptuous master suit etc.. But the home really goes for broke with murals, stained glass and vaulted wood beam ceilings. Some rooms with brick and dark wood seem vaguely Tudor, others with large columned arches evoke the Italian renaissance, the gilt detailed ceiling in the dining room seems vaguely French and then we have the muraled turret retreat which reminds me a little of the Bavarian-themed beergarden down the street. A rather curious home indeed. It is listed at $4.295 million. After the jump, painted statuary in the stairwell.

Heck no!
Give me the Prairie Style home in Colorado or the Mediterranean beauty that is Terra Bella (As if I can choose).

I like the exterior and the back/pool area, but the interior seems rather disjointed. What is it about Texas? My guess is that housing is dirt-cheap there compared to anywhere else. A few years ago we were looking in the 500K range in FL, and around that same time we were contemplating a move to TX for business reasons. 500K will get you about 50% more space and an overall better house in most places in TX (and that's without going into the middle of nowhere, which TX has aplenty).

I love the outside. Inside is barf! Needs to be modern and chic like a w hotel.

Eh, why does everything have to be chic and ultramodern? Modern and minimalistic interior would not compliment the exterior architecture and facade of this building. Yea, the house bounces from belle epoque to bavarian, to fantasy, [not my particular taste] but nothing wrong with having a couple of themes in a mansion.

Wow i personally love the high ceilings ! What worrys me is the price. I personally think on http://www.traumwohnung-sylt.de there is a much better deal for an about the same object.

Shudder.
I'm horrifed.
The exterior is fine, but it looks like they had a design contest on the interior, where a different interior designer did each room.
Overall, the outside front and back are not bad at all, if a little stereotypical for a mansion. A french-traditional interior would go well with this mansion, I don't think modern would look good in here.
It would like nice with rich woods and warm fabrics, like the classier mansions in Texas I've seen.

I'm so outrageous. I love it. I think it would be a fun house to live in. I know, it's gauche and outlandish and overstated and absolutely wonderful! LOL

I saw Frisco and perked up. Of course, it had to be in Starwood. *rolling eyes* That's the "hot" neigborhood for those that want to show off. Just mention someone is a "Starwood Mom," and you'll get the familiar "I know what you mean" look.
Funny part is, those homes are a development. For that kind of money, I'm buying a truly custom designed and built home (which we did - just at a fraction of that price). Plus every kitchen in that community looks pretty much the same! Same stain, same granite, what a shame.
That interior is craptastic.
Frisco is a GREAT city with much better homes to choose from than this.
