No Swimming in this $82,000 Golden Swimsuit

It's hard to find the perfect suit, but this gold weave suit out of Japan is apparently "better than feeling a million diamonds" and "like swimming in gold." Well it's more than "like" swimming in gold -- if you get in the water while wearing this baby you actually are swimming in gold -- the precious metal is woven right into the fabric. Valued at $82,000 the suit goes through a month-long weaving process where gold fibers about the size of a human hair are incorporated into the material. And also available in the same sparkling golden fabric is an even more expensive long dress valued at $243,900.
I wonder if they're scratchy or silky? And an important note from the designers on the swimsuit: it's not meant to go in the water.
What?! ...whatever.

What? That's beyond dumb then. A bathing suit is meant to go into the water. But I'm pretty sure some random rich person somewhere will buy it for the novelty of having a gold swimsuit.
Shaquanda Jul 8th 2007 8:29PM
now why couldnt they get a sista to model that thing? everybody knows we look better in gold than some pale bag of bones. RACISTS!

And is it one-size fits all??? Can't wait to get mine.
Yikes, just when you think no one can come up with a more stupid way to show off their wealth. Such conspicuous consumption is the height of selfishness, arrogance and human stupidity. Too bad that people with such wealth at their disposal can't come up with better ways to spend it. I don't mind that some people are wealthy, but it seems that people who are so blessed ought to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle, put aside enough to remain compfortable, and then use the excess to make the world better in some way, not just spend money to show everyone how much they have. No one needs a pure gold swimsuit that can't even get wet.

It's beautiful, but what a waste of money....
even if you can afford it!!! I can think of many ways to spend 82k plus 243k other than on a swimsuit and long dress fabric.

Shaquanda, Racist you are. what a stupid statement. But I guess Bill Cosby is right. Then again we do have whites who are equally at stupid in their comments. So I guess stupidity knows no bounds when it comes to race, religion, or what have you. I wonder if when you go swimming in this outfit if you'll sink like a gold brick. And one would think people would do more to help others then keep making these stupid outfits and handbags. After all there is starving kids and adults all over the world.

This is obviously not for the water, especially clorinated water. How does it do when some of the deep tan oil one wears at the pool gets on it??
Mary Jul 8th 2007 9:03PM
The color is really pretty, but the suit is not particularly attractive. Of course it might look better on someone with a few more curves.
beads Jul 8th 2007 9:04PM
Not bad but not for water, espcially clorinated water. What happens when some of the deep tan oil gets on it??
Susan Jul 8th 2007 9:08PM
You'd think perhaps it could be used to just lay in the sun but then again, Gold is a metal- wouldn't it get really hot? This suit is utterly useless!

What's the old saying, "GO FOR THE GOLD" & "EVERYTHING THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD"
Dorothy Tarantino Jul 8th 2007 9:28PM
To Shaquandra: I'm white, but not a racist. I have often wanted to compliment black women on how gold looks so beautiful against their dark skins. However, I'm afraid I would be accused of SOME kind of racism if I did that. What do you think?
PS I think that the gold bathing (?) suit is awful, no matter what color skin. It's ugly, first off, you can't wear it in the water, and I'll bet it would be real hot to wear sunbathing. Thumbs DOWN!

The gown and the swimsuit are beautiful, but if one knows where (and how) to shop knock offs can be found for a fraction of those prices! We each spend our money as we please, rich or poor. The rich can afford more than someone like me, of course, and that is their privilege. I hope they have charities that they choose to share with, also. I do, however, agree with jabeehler (#4). As for Shaquanda (#1), this blog is about the clothing being modeled, not the women modeling. I am white, and resent your remark about "pale bag of bones" as most models are thin - black, yellow, red, or white. It is time to get over the color issue, don't you think? It's a small planet, can't we share it as human beings, which we all are? Perhaps you are feeling a bit insecure about being black. I wouldn't feel insecure about my race, however if I couldn't spell the word "sister" properly I would most certainly feel insecure about publicy posting anything that would show off my semi-literacy!

About the comment from Shaquanda, If I am reading right she wanted to know why a "Sista" could not model that Gold bathing suit? and she said Everbody knows they look better in gold then some Pale Bag of Bones. and then at the end she typed "RACISTS" , Now to me it sounds like Shaquanda is the Racist, and why would anyone worry about something so stupid like what color person is picked to model a dress, sounds real childish to me.
Jesse Jul 8th 2007 9:47PM
To me, it's not the price or the fact that the bathing suit is made out of gold, it's that the thing's ugly. And by the way Shaq, gold looks best on Italians, like myself.
Chris Jul 8th 2007 9:50PM
People, get over it....I thought was making a joke! Stop being so sensitive! This race thing has gotten way out of hand!
Jesse Jul 10th 2007 7:09AM
To me, it's not the price or the fact that the bathing suit is made out of gold, it's that the thing's ugly.
Yo Shaq, calm down. Gold looks best on Italians.

comment from shakazula?? the crackhead sista was too busy, the white girl is still trying to figure out why she keeps getting played by the brothers so they got one of thems europeans girls to model thems gold outfits and it never got ripped off
BurtieBabe Jul 8th 2007 9:59PM
I think that they are terrific. The next time that I am in Tokyo I think that I will buy a swimsuit for my wife (she is Japanese), and one for my girlfriend (she is Greek). And, I could splurge and buy a couple dresses for my mistresses! How is that for conspicuous consumption! It is my money and I can do what I damned well please with it.
