Forest Gate, Estate of the Day

Today's home, a newer build in Flat Rock, North Carolina is fascinating just for how many different places were sourced to create it. This over 10,000 square foot home includes a granite cobblestone driveway that came from the streets of Chicago, fireplace beams from farms in the Midwest and stone floors from Burgundy, France, The home has mountain views and sits at an elevation of 2,800 feet. The home is a faux-Tuscan meets Western pastiche with the latest details including a security system with motion detectors and Lutron/Crestron lighting control systems. The five-bedroom home is on 58 acres that include barns with horse stalls, a pond and four separate homes for caretakers and trainers. This home is listed at $9.85 million. After the jump, this is the first home I have seen where the television is actually built into the stone fireplace.

Very bleak and depressing colour palate. Not that you could call that a colour palate. Just different shades of brown as far as the eye can see. I feel dirty just looking at it.

Finally, a fitting home theater rig!

As an occasional visitor to these mountain towns just 3 hours from my central NC home, I'm a bit disappointed that there is but one marginal shot of the view. The View is the money. It's the first thing I want to see from any mountain home.
I agree this color pallet does not photograph well. I suspect it shows much more luxurious in person. all in all, a pretty nice place. I love the driveway. And those shower enclosures are pretty nice.

Well I love it. The fireplaces are wonderful, and although the current owners have chosen to keep the colors of the furniture and decorations the same as the home, one could certainly go in and add some contrast.
The basic home, stone and floors make an excellent pallet to create whatever you want without overwhelming the place.
