The $1.63 Million Diamond and Platinum Handbag

So it's one thing to spend hundreds on a designer handbag that's sure to go out of style in a season or two, but millions? This diamond studded platinum handbag was on display recently in Tokyo by jewelry maker GinzaTanaka, and it looks like something Cinderella could have carried to the ball to coordinate with her beautiful glass slippers. Valued at approximately $1.63 million dollars, it boasts 2,182 diamonds totaling 208 carats and a fairly simple and understated style considering its over-the-top price tag. With this in hand all you need is a diamond tiara and you're ready to party!

i dont even own a house but if i had that kind of money it would be spent on a house, and not on something as frivolous as a handbag. anyone owning a purse like that invites trouble, they would be a target for robbers.

RICH PEOPLE HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO SPEND THEIR MONEY ON. IT MUST BE NICE TO HAVE MONEY, GEEZ. NO ONE WILL BUY THAT AND THEN WHAT- THERE'S 1.6 MILLION GONE.

Children are born into poverty situations, with little to eat and no health care, reducicing their chance in life to be successful. How in this world could one ever justify a bag - to hold non important articles - at this price. Oh the children and elderly who could be helped with $1.63 million. What about the soldier who is now ill and had no health insurance. I hope whomever foolishly wastes money on this ridiculous item, has guilt overcome them whenever they use it. This is such a sad example of the values we have in this great country of ours.

Even luxury goods keep money circulating in the economy. The people who mined the platinum and diamonds, cut the diamonds, designed and fabricated the handbag, advertised the handbag and handled the sale have been (or will be) paid. They will use the money to support their families. The money that a buyer pays for the handbag will likewise get recirculated.

That handbag is a waste of money!
I wish I had that kind of money so I can continue my education at NYU or Baruch business school.
Just so you know they sell very similar bags like that on Broadway with crystals and the silver tone that looks like platinum for $24 retail and $14 wholesale!
Just for my knowing if I had $1.63 mil to spend I would buy me a 3 family home for $700k in the Bronx, NY.
$27k to pay off my car finance debt,
$300k in savings
$100k in checking
$300k to secure my education,
$65k to my sister,
$65 to my father
$65k to my mom
and the left over ill donate to the Clinton campaign

The designer should be locked up Jul 4th 2007 4:06PM
This economy makes me sick. The designer of that bag and the buyer should be ashamed of themselves.
As best this purse will be used once at an event then locked away never to be seen again. Or even better be used to show off to other people to rub in their faces they don't have as much money as you have. The buyer of this purse will have to be just as low and uncompassionate as the designer of it.
6.5 million could save so many lifes. Yet it is being used on superficial, materialistic, ridiculous PURSES. Since when did a purse become worth more than a persons life? It didn't. But yet they're trying to tell us this.

well, i think if u have the money, spend it in whatever you please, even if its a handbag, veryone has different likes and dislikes. And it is true that the money could be going to a good cause, but then again most of the reasons people get to have such money is due to their own greedyness and look after their own interests.

Why waste people's time if you're not going to share who you are....being so proud of this bag, and I'm wondering WHERE would anyone carry it and people stop you in your tracks thinking it's so valuable? Kim in Georgia
Jill Jul 4th 2007 4:54PM
What's the point? If I saw someone carrying it I would assume it was a gaudy knock off. Who in their right mind would carry it?
Andrea Jul 4th 2007 5:15PM
Enjoy life a little..Not everything has to be about feeding children or the homeless..The whole point is if one has enough money to purchase a handbag such as this one they have homes, cars, savings, and are donating to charities..stop hating so much and just enjoy it, for what it is!
Suzie Jul 4th 2007 5:16PM
I rather like the bag and if I had that kind of money I certainly would buy it. This is what is known as an "INVESTMENT". People become wealthy by choice, getting a college education, having great ideas and working hard (18 hr. days not 8 hr. days like most).
If one is rich it's nobody's business how they spend their money.
Further, how do y'all know that this person hasn't donated millions to charities. Why do people think that other people's money is "their entitlement". If your poor get off your butts and work, make investments, wise choices.
Bamboo Jul 4th 2007 5:16PM
My only question is; "will that stupid prairie dog fit into it?"
Kenni Jul 4th 2007 5:24PM
Who cares if someone wants to spend that much on a hand bag? Women out there have accumulated more debt into their shoe collection and no one is giving them as much grief. What I would do with 1.63 million dollars is far different from what you would do with 1.63 million dollars, and I doubt that if any of you who insist on giving that money to charity instead would actually do so if such a great amount came to you. Instead of criticising those who have worked hard to get that money they now so frivously spend, or even those who have been born to it, why not spend your time working to earn a little of it yourselves? Then you can donate it to whatever cause you want to instead of insisting someone else does it for you.
