Is It A Sin To Own A Ferrari?

Is it a sin to own a Ferrari? It certainly seems like the Pope thinks so, at least according to a 'rules of the road' document issued by the Vatican that warns against using cars "as a means for outshining other people and arousing a feeling of envy."
Ferrari doesn't seem too ruffled by this news, with the general manager addressing the issue with the response that most Ferrari owners buy the vehicles because they love to drive, not because they see it as a status symbol. And although I can't say I disagree with him (and I admit I do not and have not ever owned a Ferrari myself) I think it's fair to say that there's at least a little "status symbol" to be found in every Ferrari.

Well... it is curious... I remember Ferrari offered the Pope a Ferrari... Now he says that it is a sin to own one? So we find the biggest sinners inside the 'holy' walls of Vatican... a bit ironic, I guess...

Sure there is a little more than "a lil" status symbolism going on in the purchase of the Ferrari, but whose the Pope to say that someone should not be able to work hard and than spend what they made on a hard days work for something they want to own.
I guess I don't look up to the Pope for anything, but even if it was my own father telling me not to buy the car I wouldn't listen as long as I can comfortably afford the car, but I can't afford it and would listen to my father if he was offering sound advice on the concept of saving.

I'm not Catholic, I'm an evangelical, and we tend to be more conservative about these things than Catholics. I find the idea presented by the Catholic Church as rediculous. I know many fine Christians with VERY expensive and rare vehicles. They're not lording their wealth or power, they just appreciate items of quality and workmanship. This is actually supported by the Bible: "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." From Philippians 4:8.
Most of us appreciate Ferrari for the beauty, form, and function of the vehicles. Very few folks own Ferraris to "stick it" to someone else. The Pope is wrong. Sorry.

I dont think it is a sin to own one but would it cause you to stumble across other sin and making others stumble in their walk with the Lord. Plus I can think of a thousand other things money like that can go to, to further the kingdom of God.
