Ashera, The Designer Cat

If this cat looks a bit extraordinary, that's because this is no ordinary cat. It's an Ashera, a breed created by mixing the bloodlines of a domesticated cat, an African Serval and an Asian Leopard Cat. The result is a 30 pound kitty who is highly intelligent, affectionate and has no problem with being walked on a leash. However, you might not want to rush out and spend the $22,000 asking price for this cat just yet. There is a controversy brewing and some say the Ashera isn't a new breed at all, but rather a Savannah cat with a different name and higher price. The Savannah was introduced in 2000, contains the same bloodlines and costs less than $5,000. Either way, this is a really cool cat.

I am a breeder of the REAL Ashera...the ashera that you see is nothing more then an extremly over priced Savannah. A savannah is a cross between a african serval and a domestic house cat. These cats are sometimes bred with a cat called a Bengal which is part asianic lepord cat. There is nothing speacial to this cat and it is not new the TICA has been registering this cat since 2000. The cats that are selling for 22,000 would be sold only as pets in my program because they would be low quality and i wouldnt want their genes back in the gene pool. I would sell a cat of that standard for around 800. for a good quality cat I would sell it for around 1,000 to 1,500 as a pet and as a breeder I would sell them for around 300 more. I am accepting Deposits but there is a waiting list the deposit is 250 and is non refundable unless I can not provide you with a kitten. you can contact me at 513-600-5996 or at 513-625-1478 or at matt_waits@yahoo.com for information.

I have a pair of litter mates (from a farm on the edge of the Sahara) they are only 20lbs, and they really are the most loyal cats/pets you could ever imagine. Please understand they are very loyal to their owners, they will hunt everything else.
Mine are african wildcats and serval mixes; they have no asian fishing cat in them. I wouldn't trade them for the world.

That's cool as heck but the markings are nowhere near the quality of our almost 1 year old Bengal cat (Cost about $500).

Rediculous price for some beautiful, intelligent cats! I know. I lived on a farm with Asian Leopard/Bobcat/Absynian kitties, who, frankly were marked even prettier than the cat pictured on the website!
Sweet, fiercely intelligent, and the male cats were huge! Another friend has one of thier males and he thinks he is a person.
I would highly recommend one of these beauties, but NOT at that rediculous price! HAH!

Regarding the above photo: Yes that might be a breed of cat called a Savannah. If it is then its lineage would be serval-bengal,not serval-domestic. Also the breed Bengal was actually started in the mid-late 60's when a geneticist actually did breed a small Asian leopard cat (like our wildcats/lynxes) with a domestic cat and eventually the Bengal breed was perfected and finally recognized by TICA in the early 80's. And I have some of the most beautiful Bengals ever born-all with spots, and some with tiger stripes. They all have spotted stomachs, ring tails and black/dark feet. Sorry if I sound like a mommy bragging about her "kids" but that is the way it is. They own me!

Well the "Real Ashera" breeder who commented above is not responding to email requests for more info, it's too bad.

Robin, I'd suspect the "Real Ashera" breeder is not actuallty a savannah breeder as I checked all the major breeder listings and there is no listed savannah cattery in Cincinnati, Ohio. Also his pricing is way off. A low quality F2 savannah kitten would cost about $2,000.00 while a good quality kitten will cost you about $3,500.00, not $1,500.00, unless it was a retired adult breeder.
I'm not saying he's not a valid breeder, however I would go with a recognized breeder who is listed and who breeds cats used by other breeders. A1Savannahs.com, Wagati.com and Joykatz.net (my savannahs breeder) are the top used breeders by other savannah catteries in the US.
