Grand Opulance Sundae at Serendipity in NYC
At Serendipity in New York City, you can rub shoulders with celebrities while enjoying gourmet burgers, chicken and fish. If you still have room for dessert, try the Grand Opulence Sundae. At $1,000, it is considered the most expensive ice cream treat in the world. How to make this extravagant dessert? Start with 5 scoops of premium vanilla ice cream made from Tahitian Vanilla beans and Madagascar Vanilla and cover them in 23k edible gold leaf. Drizzle the whole affair with the world's most expensive chocolate, Amedei Porceleana and chunks of rare Chuao Chocolate. Then suffuse the sundae with Parisian candied fruit, gold dragets, truffles and Marzipan Cherries. Place a tiny bowl of Grand Passion Caviar on top and serve in a baccarat Harcourt crystal goblet with an 18k gold spoon. For the finishing touch, add a gilded sugar flower by Ron Ben-Israel. There you have it. If you want it, Serendipity requests 48 hours notice to prepare one just for you.

This is ridiculous. Anybody interested in buying or eating one of these ridiculous concoctions should instead hop over to Haagen Daz, grab a cone, and then donate the other $996.50 to a local charity, school, or animal shelter. Do you know how many peoples' lives could be affected in a positive way if only 10 would-be Sundae eaters instead donated their desert money to folks who need help?????

nothing else to say except are you crazy? $1000 for ice cream? that's a car payment on a REALLY nice car, rent for a month in some places, and almost a mortgage too. who the hell comes up with these ideas for food?!
ruby May 18th 2007 4:34PM
next you are going to tell me that the main course is worth $6 million dollar and it will come with a ruby and diamond shred napkin. What a waste!

Yes, it's completely ridiculous in my opinion to spend so much on a dessert, and caviar on ice cream sounds gross. But rather rip the rich, I'd rather try to be successful myself. Hey, I'd love to be able to afford a $1000 sundae. If I had the money I wouldn't spend it on the sundae, but I'd love to have that kind of money, lol. This article also made me want to go out and make a cheaper version for my own enjoyment... vanilla Haagen-Daz with some good-quality chocolate syrup and chocolate truffles... mmm.. perhaps with chopped toasted almonds, whipped cream, and some fresh cherries. Forget the caviar, marzipan, and gold... and I bet it would taste just as good in a plain glass sorbet dish with a normal spoon.
Yummy!
Have a great day,
Robin

Pay me a $1,000 and I'll make you a Sundae topped off with monkey brains
Shirley Hulgan May 18th 2007 4:49PM
This is for people who have more money than brains folks!

What a shame that out society has reduced to this. To think that anyone would eat this foul-sounding mixture of caviar, ice cream and all else to prove their opulence...how miserable.

well la ti da Mr. Jonathan Doen...Guess we're all just low class citizens, I mean, with our preference for reasonable priced desserts and all...
Maybe you missed the point that it's sickening to many to pay $1000 for something that will ultimately end up in your toilet....how much is that 'art' worth?
cathy May 18th 2007 5:09PM
You all sound so jealous! Get over it.
stacey May 18th 2007 5:17PM
At least the caviar is fruity (infused with passion fruit and orange)...not regular, salty caviar.
I have to say it does sound gross BUT I would love to have the money to be able to ponder that as an option for dessert.

And we wonder why so many people around the world hate us Americans??? This is what we spend our money on??? Maybe the people coming up with these ridiculous ways to serve ice cream should spend their time and energy doing SOMETHING worthwhile...I can't believe people and what they do with their time and money!!! It makes us all look ridiculous.
Karen May 18th 2007 5:33PM
Crazy and disappointing at once. Literally for people with money to pass out their .... As I was saying, it makes me sad. I work at a soup kitchen, and I could feed our approximate 120 guests daily for about 4-6 months.
shelley May 18th 2007 5:37PM
And we wonder why so many people around the world hate us Americans??? I wishh the people that spent their time thinking up this stupid thing would would do something worthwhile. If you have enough money to buy this, and you think that is the best use of your money, you are a very sad person. This $1000 ice cream is what is wrong with our country. By the way, I could buy this and the money wouldn't ever be missed. I am not saying it is stupid because I can't afford it. I am saying it is stupid, because it is!
