The Austonian

The Austonian, based in you guessed it, Austin, Texas is first big tower I've seen in this city. The 55-story luxury condo tower was recently profiled in the Austin American Statesman for having a dog toilet. The 10th floor of the building is home to an urban garden that includes a lap pool, billiards room, outdoor movie screen and a dog park that has a self-cleaning dog toilet. The dog toilet is built flush with the floor, it has a chemical aroma that atttracts dogs and a pushbutton device scrapes the dog waste away. There are 195 condo units and the 53rd level features a skylounge. The building is being designed by Ziegler Cooper Architects of Houston and units cost betweeen $550,000 to $3.8 million

Of course anyone with even a passing familiarity with Austin knows that people who live here are called "Austinites". People who live in Houston are "Houstonians". Everyone here is embarrassed for the developer. Hopefully their next project won't be "The New Yorkian" or the "Bostonite". Sad.

Perhaps they were influenced by the Houstonian in Houston and not necessarily the title of a resident? If so, not a smart gamble anyway.

This is the VERY last thing Austin needs.....I hope it never gets built.

This is exactly what Austin needs. High density residential. Looks good.

Austin is a city of over a million and if someone does not like the way this tower looks to the city then they need to move to a smaller town. Austin is growing and just look at it now. People need not try to stop it.

I cant decide if I like this or not. On one hand I like the idea of having more density downtown. On the other this seems a little wierd for Austin. I dont mind Austin growing but it would be nice if Austin keep its local flavor.
