Gold iPods Return, Now in 24K Version
Just this weekend I was chatting with my mate over the demise of my gold iPod Mini. He insists that I need a new iPod, one with a color screen at the very least and that my gold Mini is a dinosaur. True enough, but I really love the now discontinued gold color. And then this morning, lo and behold everyone is buzzing about the iPod which is plated in 24 karat gold. My first thought is that 24K gold is far too soft for a device that gets banged about so much, but the company Amosu says that the iPods are plated in "unique hardened mirror gold." The 30GB and 80GB iPod sell for $600 and $800 with a white or black face and the Nanos are also $600. [via Gearlog and Mobile Mag among many others]

the truth May 1st 2007 10:20AM
the truth is, this is not the place to post your social commentaries and sob stories about global poverty. THIS is about a new product that is quite aesthetically pleasing. Those who can afford it can CHOOSE to buy it--a wonderful thing about a little old thing called democracy, instead of the communist sentiment that is coming through in these posts. Anyways, the rich are the ones who CAN and ARE doing something about social problems. Bill Gates can buy hundreds of these gold ipods AND donates more money than you all will ever have during your entire lifetime to good and honorable causes. Why don't you go volunteer at some local shelter instead of complaining about your own lack of funds? Pompous, jealous fools.

You people are all nuts. What does a gold iPod have to dowith global warming? Does everything have to do with global warming? If you brilliant scientists want to stop global warming, then just put out the 1 thing that is the main contributer to global warming......THE SUN!!!!!! On a lighter note... who cares about a gold iPod. If you earn your money, then spend it however you want. I have a real problem with people who complain how others "waste" their money and that they should "give it to the needy". We are the most generous nation on Earth, we give more to other countries as well as to our own needy every year. The totals continue to increase every year, just check the IRS if you don't believe in the charitable contributions given annually. Just because some people have more than others does not make them wasteful or evil or greedy. The vast majority of people work HARD for their money so why shouldn't they be able to spend it however they want. Controlling people was tried before (COMMUNISM) and it doesn't work. Everyone just get over the gold iPod, the gold doorknobs, the gold fixtures, etc. Just remember, moneydoes not equal taste.

jeesh skippy...why the heck are you wasting your time picking on a sixteen-year-old anyways? I'm sixteen too, and judging by your comments, both Malcom and I are much, much smarter than you. Big bully.

Oh my gosh.. What are you all doing on your wasteful computers when you could be out solving the global warming issues? You want to do something get off your fat lazy butt and stop preaching to us. I'll spend my money any damn way I please.
Kayla Apr 28th 2007 1:06PM
It's an iPod... nothing to get all ticked off about. Even if they didn't make this, there would still be starving kids and global warming. Oh well...
Greg Apr 28th 2007 1:15PM
You all act like world poverty is our fault. I am sick of wasting money to save the world. It will never be saved at least not by us. Keep your money in this country and if you want a gold ipod get one.
P.S. Malcolm, I hope you learn to spell before you go out in the real world. Maybe you need some play dates with an english teacher.

Ok whomever you are, hyped up on the global warming crap......calm down. There are always going to be trivial, trite things such as this for sale. Depends on if you have the money and adventurer's spirit to buy them. Only takes a few of those like you to dampen everyone else's spirits.....Hello Chicken Little. IS the sky falling? If you've earned your money decently and worked for it, then you have also earned the right as to what to DO with that money, have you not? As for your living your life with the global warming centrificating YOUR life.....do you walk everywhere you have to go? Do you only eat enough to sustain life? Of course do DO go without modern conveniences such as heat/air conditioning, electricity and indoor plumbing? And you surely do not own ANY electronic gizmos such as a cellphone, computer, video gaming consoles, or such. Come off it. If you'd like to play the Holier-than-thou martyr, fine. Then do it in private. All you're doing is making an idiot out of yourself. Of course alot of us think these things are frivolous but they're fun to look at, to talk about. Dont bring the rest of us down with your doomsday attitude okay?
Geoff Apr 28th 2007 1:29PM
You all keep talking about world poverty and hunger and everything of that nature. It seems that none of you have grasped the concept that the people who are buying these arent going to donate their money to begin with. So you might as well all stop talking about hunger and poverty and go do something about that problem youself and not try to make other people feel bad when they worked to earn their money and they can spend it however they like. Yes a gold ipod is stupid but let them buy it if they want who cares.

The gold Ipod will be a hit for those who like bling, but I personally like the basic colors better. The 24 Karat Gold Ipod doesn't sound like a good idea for parents who are thinking about getting their kid(s) an Ipod because they might drop it, and then there goes your 24 Karat Gold Ipod.

i have a 60 gb ipod ive had it 2 years it has a total of 200 songs on it, one thing i found with ipod/apple is by all means back up your library especially purchased tracks because last summer my ipod wiped out there was nothing left i had only spent maybe 20$ in tracks and videos but when i emailed apple i wasnt able to recoup my losses so along with 400 for the ipod i was out 20$ too. my daughter has a 30 g ipod and while out jogging she dropped it and now its useless its out of warranty and to send it to apple for repair is too expensive the guy at apple said equate running with your ipod to running with your laptop not a good idea
