Chopawamsic Island, Estate of the Day

We are back in private island land again bringing you a really pricey little hunk of land. Chopawamsic is the only private island on the Virginia side of the Potomac River. It has 13 acres of land offering 4300 sq ft of shoreline. The island has a deep well and electricity is provided via an underwater cable. The island is home to a caretaker's house and a main house but both were built before World War II and are in need of major renovation or potential teardown. The land is located just 45 minutes from Washington DC and is 275 yards offshore from Quantico. The island has a long history, the website devoted to the island reports that the first non-native visitor to the island was Captain John Smith and that John Lennon once considered purchasing the island. The website also shows that the island has shrunk a bit over the years, something those looking to bid may want to consider. It's selling for $25 million. After the jump, a few pics of the island and a map showing the island's prime location.

The property has a lot of potential....looks like with a bit of work and a dumptruck full of money you could make something truly special.
Whats with the terrible, BW or discolored photographs though? You'd think that considering they want $25 million they'd at least go down and take new pictures...
