Dwayne Wade's House, Estate of the Day

The home of Miami Heat basketball star Dwayne Wade is one that I am just itching to hear your thoughts on.The massive home in the Pinecrest, Florida area puts to shame other NBA homes I have seen such as those owned by Shaquille O'Neal and Karl Malone. Like Shaq, Wade personalized his pool and like Malone, Wade went a wee bit crazy with the murals.
From the outside the nearly 12,000-square-foot French-style home seems rather sedate but once inside the six-bedroom home things get a bit Flashtastic. Wade, known as "Flash," has put a "W" inlaid in the marble floor in the entrance hall and the listing includes the furnishings, artwork and some of Mr. Wade's memorabilia. There are rooms in the home, such as the dining room that are rather elegantly decorated, there are also touches like the Spider-man-themed bathrooms and the many, many renderings of Mr. Wade, that make this a home in need of some work. The home is so idiosyncratic that you would really have to be a fan to live here and I wonder if he will have as tough a time selling as Malone did. There is also a one-bedroom guest house, pool and patio with a summer kitchen on the property. The home is listed at $8.9 million. After the jump, a monument to ego.
UPDATE: Wade has struggled to sell the home, reducing the price several times. It is now listed at $4.599 million.

What do you wonder if?

The changes necessary to make it marketable shouldn't be that expensive (as this real estate goes). My problem with this house is that it doesn't really look lived in.

That spider-man bathroom is horrible. Or rather the wall is. Fugly.
What is the tube thing? Is that an elevator?
Rich Apr 8th 2007 7:48PM
Spelled his name wrong.
Henry Apr 8th 2007 11:34PM
Is that a camera in the Spiderman bathroom? That's just creepy...
Williams Apr 9th 2007 12:03AM
I agree that the changes needed to make it marketable are minor. The spiderman bathroom is obviously for a child. This can be easily rectified! The property is gorgeous overall.

Ego would be the right word. Self glorification and worship is not an attractive thing. Very beige indeed.
Sam Apr 9th 2007 3:49PM
I think the spiderman bathroom is neat and is probably for a child. I think that tube is an elevator , but should have been painted a lighter color that would blend with the rest of the area. I would not mind living in that home.

There is not adequate space or time to describe the awfulness which is this monstrosity.

classical result of someone with too much money and zero class.

Who would want to live in this house? I wouldn't. What a self-tribute and waste of money. But, hey, at least he gives those kids free basketballs and is leaving the world a better place than how he found it.
Quote the Raven Apr 9th 2007 12:20PM
Ok, Henry picked up on it. But seriously, there is a wireless camera in a childs bathroom. If you look at the reflection in the mirror it looks like the shower is on the opposite wall where the camera is aimed. Seriously creepy doesn't even come close, the authorities should investigate this.
Quote the Raven Apr 9th 2007 1:36PM
And did you see there is another camera in the childs room aimed at the bed?
Adam Apr 9th 2007 3:43PM
It appears that the only place there are cameras in the house is in the childs area. mmm... makes you wonder about "Flash"
Williams Apr 9th 2007 3:45PM
The home is gorgeous. The painting of Wade can be removed. The wall potrait can be painted over. Such minor adjustments really. The cameras are a non issue really. The home is huge. Mother is normally there alone and want to keep an eye out on the child.
Candy Apr 13th 2007 1:21PM
I think it's nice. Stop hating. If this is the way he want to have his house so be it.

Your home is supposed to be about you. Anyone who could afford an 8.9 million dollar home will be able to personalize the place and make it about them.

Camera's in a childs bath or bed room is no reason to assume that Flash is a freak. Perhaps the assumptions that the camera's are used for something immoral should be filed under "you spot it, you got it".

this house dosen,t compare to shaq,s.its not worth
the money even if you cut the price in half.
