High Flying and Global Warming Words Get John Travolta In Trouble
John Travolta, seems to have forgotten one of the greatest truisms in life: those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. At the British premiere of his motorcycle buddy pic, Wild Hogs, Travolta took it upon himself to hold forth on the topic of the environment. The actor, who owns five planes and has a home with a private runway in Florida asked his fans to do their part to help tackle global warming. This Is London calculates that the flying Travolta has done in the past year adds up to a hefty 800 tons of carbon emissions. Travolta made his comments after driving down the red carpet on a Harley Davidson. Travolta blamed his flying on the movie business and also said that perhaps we should be thinking about other planets and "dome cities" as possible solutions. He did admit that he is not the best person to lecture on the problem of global warming due to his love of flying planes. So far he has not done what other actors and performers (and Al Gore) have done and purchase carbon credits to offset his pollution.
In a related story, after leaving London on his plane, Travolta went to Germany for another premiere. While flying his private jet from Germany to New York, the Boeing 707 suffered "technical difficulties" mid-flight and he was forced to make an emergency landing at Shannon airport in Ireland.
Upddate: TMZ reports that there was never an emergency, that Travolta's plane made a routine fuel stop and problem with the #2 engine was discovered and a starter was replaced.

I guess noone realizes how much the space shuttle damages the ozone layer with every lift off.
Each lift off does as much damage as every car in the U.S. does in a years time. Gore; if you havent already realized it, is and always has been full of shit.

That guy is a real QUEEN ..He will not even cum out of the "closet", as we all know he is the Queen of Hollywood. Why does he need so many planes and waste gas? These asshole actors think they know everything. Just like the Fat, Ugly, Bitch, Bull Dyke Rosie O'Donnell. All talk and NO action. They have too much money for what they do.

David - Why be a player? Some people have to work 2-3 jobs to just feed their family. They don't sleep with every other one in Hollywood.,have children and don't marry. Most of us Have one wife and 3 children. The government does not give us Health Benefits and tax us up our ass. We don't own homes.
Save the planet - so you say get 100 planes if you can. Get a life, if you can.

I usually don't comment on these type of discussions but I do think it's hypocritical of Mr. Travolta to not practice what he preaches. It reminds me of Rosie and her attack on Tom Selleck meanwhile her bodyguards carry weapons. Bottomline is that it's silly for "Average Joe" to let Hollywood dictate what we should or shouldn't do, who really cares. It's the people that really care that have made nobodys like Paris Hilton a somebody in our culture, very sad.

I am tired of celebrities telling people how to live. They have millions of dollers and can buy whatever their hearts desire. The rest of us have to survive just to live. That means if we have to drive a crappy running car that pollutes, well, sorry. I think these big mouth celebs could cut down on the big living. How many mansions do they really need? And five jets? One for each week day, I guess. Maybe these celebs should share the wealth!!!!

get your heads out of the sand,
THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING.... it is all a political ploy,,,,there is no proof, only theory and just based on trends....what happened to the global warming experts that said that the hurrican season after Katrina would be far worse...FALSE... and do they say how Mars is also getting warmer..oh that's right, they have suv's on mars don't they...and how about this winter...even Texas had a record snowfall in Austin ON EASTER WEEKEND....WAKE UP AND FIND OUT WHAT THE REAL AGENDA IS

Someone commented "Peta says the methane from animal waste is the greatest source. It's caused, according to PETA, by our raising animals for food. (Although I'm not a fan of PETA, this is an important observation.)" There is no evidence that indicates the same amount of animals (not necessarly the same type/breed) would not exist whether in the wild or not if we were an agarian society raising soy for food. Just more misinformation by the Peta folks. Besides there are ways to capture that methane for proper use.

I am tired of hearing about celebrities and their priuses and saving the environment. They live in huge house that need to be heated and air conditioned, they have heated pools and fly on private jets. Then when they are in the public eye, they pull up to events in tiny little priuses to show they care about the environment. When I hear that they fly commercial and live in 1200 sq foot houses to save resources, then I might listen to their opinions

"Carbon Credits" - what a JOKE! They're just another way for the wealthy to clear their conscience!
Steve Apr 9th 2007 9:47PM
To Keith & all haters of G.M.All the electric vehicles to date (including the beloved EV-1)were R&D exercises. The EV-1 was only developed to study alternative propulsion systems. The batteries were too inefficient to produce on a cost efective & enviromentaly sound basis. The result of these studies is G.M.`s Volt, but it is still a long way to an electric in every garage.Ask any electrical engineer the estimated cost (dollars & enviroment impact )of electric as opposed to fossil;you won`t be as easly brainwashed.
with all due respect,Steve

john travolta should kiss quinten taratinos ass for reviving his career the same way dr phil should do to oprah,,because if either one stopped short their legs would be sticking out their ass

I wish they'd stop shoving their religion down my throat. I'll drive what I want when I want. I'm not asking anyone to pay for the gas. You idiots also need to realize that according to your "religion" we need to reduce our dependence on oil based products. That means your phony hair colors, toothpaste, computers etc.. to say nothing much of your heating and air conditioning. TURN THEM OFF or shut the f up and leave the rest of us alone.

Hey can I sell my carbon credits? I have about 30 squirrels planting trees in my yard all the time. :-)
Buying your way out of being a major polluter by paying for planting a few trees is such a scam. How about these celebrity assholes taking the bus, flying coach, downsizing both the number and size of their houses, and "living green" like they tell everyone else to do?

In 1978 I had a Nissan (then called a Datsun)B-210. It got 34 to 36 miles per gallon. That was just after the alleged oil "shortage" in the middle 70's.
Many cars got mileage in the 30 mpg range during that time. What happened to the ability to build cars that do that. Now they want to make hybrids with electric and gas power and brag about getting 26 miles a gallon. Do they think we don't have memories??
richard Apr 9th 2007 10:41PM
selling carbon contracts is one of the most rediculous things I have ever heard of.
You wouldn't want too live down the road from the Co. that purchases a contract. That would mean that it was OK to contaminate your lungs "Because they bought a 'CONTRACT' too ruin YOUR health".
