High Flying and Global Warming Words Get John Travolta In Trouble
John Travolta, seems to have forgotten one of the greatest truisms in life: those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. At the British premiere of his motorcycle buddy pic, Wild Hogs, Travolta took it upon himself to hold forth on the topic of the environment. The actor, who owns five planes and has a home with a private runway in Florida asked his fans to do their part to help tackle global warming. This Is London calculates that the flying Travolta has done in the past year adds up to a hefty 800 tons of carbon emissions. Travolta made his comments after driving down the red carpet on a Harley Davidson. Travolta blamed his flying on the movie business and also said that perhaps we should be thinking about other planets and "dome cities" as possible solutions. He did admit that he is not the best person to lecture on the problem of global warming due to his love of flying planes. So far he has not done what other actors and performers (and Al Gore) have done and purchase carbon credits to offset his pollution.
In a related story, after leaving London on his plane, Travolta went to Germany for another premiere. While flying his private jet from Germany to New York, the Boeing 707 suffered "technical difficulties" mid-flight and he was forced to make an emergency landing at Shannon airport in Ireland.
Upddate: TMZ reports that there was never an emergency, that Travolta's plane made a routine fuel stop and problem with the #2 engine was discovered and a starter was replaced.

I just read in sunday's newspaper that Mars is also experiencing global warming!Perhaps John Travolta and his Scientologist brethren are already inhabiting other planets and are flying around Mars contributing to the global warming threat there!

Keith makes more sense than any of us can possibly admit to! We, as Americans need more truth, but it is up to us to stand up and demand it. We are so concerned about the situations in the Middle East, why, gas, oil and money. We have been America, a democracy until this regime took over. This is not a democracy, we live under "the decider's" rule. A hitler regime, democracy? We need him and his regime to be ousted. I believe in our soldiers, not why they die now!

i think that anybody who does think the planet is in troulbe is a fool we use more then we have we cut down trees which gives os oxygaen and we don't replace them. global warming is a real treat people and we need to do some thing i do my part i walk to work when i can (i live a mile from my job so if it's cold i drive) i don't use aresols and i never buy paperplates nor do i buy styrafom if we all do a little we can all do so much

I think Deanna (post #57) has alot to learn about political and civic responsibility. I am by no means a bush supporter at this particular time but to call this a "Hitler Regime" Is irresponsible on your part. You CANNOT compare The U.S. to Nazi Germany. There is NO comparison. And dont suggest you know what living conditions were like for folks in Nazi Germany because you dont. Like you are SOOO Oppressed

I'm sick of the celebrity hypocrites who tell the rest of uf how we should live and they go on about their business living their luxurious lives burning tons of fuel, having many houses that do not have energy saving techniques and using much more energy than any of us can even imagine. Get out of my face, Travolta and Gore! You're nauseating.
paula Apr 9th 2007 2:13AM
John Travolta and all the other rich snobs that are talking politics and environment are just doing what they do best ACTING. They are ACTING like they know what they are talking about. They are ACTING like they care. They are ACTING like they have enough brains to do anything else but ACT LIKE SOMEONE ELSE. They don't have intelligence, or they would have a real job that takes real brains.
Lindsay Apr 9th 2007 2:30AM
Yes, most celebrities are hypocritical and preach about things that they aren't willing to do themselves but that doesn't mean that it's not important. Obviously global warming is a problem and even if you don't agree that it is, I'm sure you can agree that pollution is a problem. #11-Even if others don't take global warming seriously that doesn't excuse you from not taking it seriously. That's a very immature way to look at things and everyone should do their part even if others don't! As much as I hate to say it because I think the government has too many laws already and often about stupid things, but they need to make some more laws concerning the environment and give a lot of funding to find true solutions to the problems, not just ones that will make them money. The fact is something needs to change and even if celebrities aren't doing it themselves I'm glad they are drawing attention to the problem.

# 14. "How arrogant to think that we, mere humans, could cause something so monumental!"
How stupid to think 6+BILLION of us m-effers COULDN'T cause something so monumental...wake up you idiot. (And even if it weren't true, we need to stop polluting the air...how long could YOU live without air??? Two minutes maybe?)
P.S. The 'Tesla' car rocks!!!!! Too bad it costs so damn much.
dvdsn61@aol.com Apr 9th 2007 2:46AM
This is typical of the hollywood elite, they think they should be held to a different standard than us commoners. When Travolta, Gore and their ilk bring their usage down to what mine is,I'll start doing more.

Remember, Celebrities are mainly people who love to hear themselves speak. As for this Global Warming craze, I think it's time to find the answers on our own... Weren't arasol cans a major problem years back. We were never told that the fumes held in those cans were actually heavier then the air, making the fumes fall rather then rise into the atmosphere. I have no doubt that we have made a contribution to the deterioration of our environment, however, not to the degree being pushed by the Al Gores of the world. Rather then buy into all the propaganda, take a look at the fact that our earth has been through three other ice ages and runs in cycles as does everything... The majority of our global warming comes where it has always come from, volcanic activity and the earths natural balance of time. The majority of our earth being under water leaves a lot of below sea activity. Our last ice age was not deteriorated due to penguins and mammoths smoking cigars and driving hummers... People are desperate to have notice taken and jump on the band wagon. Don't buy into all the hype and propaganda. Hundreds of scientists have researched this for years and will tell you the same thing. No one should have to feel guilty for driving a vehicle of their choice to accomadate their family.

Why doesn't Travolta offer to fly Nancy Pelosi back and forth to D.C. After all, she wants a larger plane, and a 707 would surely provide enough room and cost us taxpayers nothing!
Sal Rivas Apr 9th 2007 3:17AM
Get off his back haters. Global warming is not as bad as they claim if it exists at all. They just want your money.
firecaptn230 Apr 9th 2007 3:17AM
First off global warming and cooling runs in cycles due to the activity or inactivity of sunspots. We are towards the end of a 40 year warming cycle that started in about 1970. Human polution only accounts for about 4 percent of total environmental polution the biggest contributors are volcanoes and other naturaly ocurring phenomenon. although i do believe Mr. Travolta leads an exceedingly lavish lifestyle that leans toward the absurd, it's his money he is wasting and who are we to tell him how to live his life or spend his money.
James R Quinn Apr 9th 2007 3:19AM
Travolta is a snob, yes ... but the important thing is the nonsense of "man-made" Global Warming. In the 11th century it was so warm they settled and FARMED Greenland ... and had wineries in Northern England. Why didn't the Oceans rise then? Al Gore has no answer for that.
I recommend you wake up by reading these two books ...

John Travolta has a heart of gold. My husband David was in the movie Urban Cowboy with him. David said that he was the most down to earth person you would want to meet, as long as you were not a suck a__. He sat next to him when he bought his first plane while filming at Gillies. I met my husband there, and have been married for almost 26 years. I met John Travolta at a private party at Patrick Swazey's dads bar/night club and he was just as nice as could be. I do not think he would ever do anything other than what is right. He had a kind heart then and still does. There was a man badly injured during the filming of the movie. He was working on his car that had broken down on the freeway. John, my husband and I believe one other guy went to the hospital and John gave the man a black hat with a gold signature inside. His planes do not all fly at once, for goodness sakes. What do they think, that he is the only person with a plane, car, etc. Give the guy a break!!!!!!

It's 3 am and I can't sleep. I've really enjoyed reading all these blogs! I agree that when others start doing as much as I am, I'll do more.
65,66 & 68 Hats off to you. I'll look into the books, Good night.

For everyone who feels global warming is some failed theory instead of complaining I would like some proof becuase obviousily the growing melting of the icecaps aren't a sure sign of something going wrong
nanjedwardsinc Apr 9th 2007 4:46AM
I do not know John Travolta. I do not know Tom Cruise. I no longer
watch their movies. I know little about airplanes. I do know about
fans and stalkers. Someone on the Internet told me they owned a plane
with a 'nose'. It is a fairly large aircraft and had flown over my
upstairs bedroom window. The nose is red wire frame ( or composite
mesh). I would assume the pilot was flying low as possible. I could
have hit it with a rock. Does anyone know what type of plane this is
? And who owns such aircraft ? I'm flattered but a letter only costs
39 cents and very on low emissions. Thank you if anyone has input.

How ignorant can some of you be? Glaciers and ice caps are melting world wide, soon they will be gone. The last 7 years have been the hottest years in recorded history! Take a look around you, around the world. There are millions of cars on the road everyday spewing out black crap. Think of all the products being made and everything that gets thrown away every day. We are polluting our lakes, rivers and oceans. Often you can't even swim in the ocean because of the amount of pollution in it - not by personal choice but because you are not allowed to. We pollute our air, our soil, kill animals and plant life. Everywhere we go we destroy all that we can. Can you honestly sit there and say that we are not a problem or that there is no problem? #42- Could you be more ignorant? Do some research or get your head out of your ass and take a look around before you go speaking on something you obviously know nothing about. #48- thank you. A good essay to read - "The Obligation to Endure" by Rachel Carson- that'll open your eyes. It was written in 1962, so obviously this isn't a new concept. Lastly, I am shocked by you people who say that you'll only do your part once somebody else first does theirs. What a load of shit! You people are pathetic! Everytime I read someone saying that I picture a child, because that is exactly what a child would say. Nothing will ever be accomplished if you sit there waiting for someone else to do it first. It's everyone's responsibility and it can't just be ignored.

Funny..I have been doing all of the suggested things on this list of things to do to cut energy use for many years as have my other friends and family members..In Christianity, we are called to be good stewards of everything and to share by choice with others instead of hoarding. Stewardship is not a new idea. It's called thankfulness.
It's funny how when some come up with something old that it is new to them and not just common sense. I don't think America can take care of the whole world nor is it our responsibility. If people would just start with caring for what is right in front of them it would be nice.
