Barry Manilow Joins the World of Celebrity Wine
The latest celebrity to enter the wine business is none other than Barry Manilow. Fans of the singer can now get their hands on Manilow wines in five varietals, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel made at several different California wineries. The Manilow wine retails for between $20 to $25 dollars a bottle. It doesn't seem like Manilow has much of a hand in these wines. Many celebrities actually work with a winemaker and/or vineyard to produce a particular type of wine but these wines seem to be Manilow in name only. Still, they will probably be a big hit with the "fanilows."[via Wine Spectator and E Online]

Some of the Manilow wines have been available for well over a year, and I've tried several. The Pinot Grigio was unremarkable, but the cabernet was surprisingly rich and complex. The Zinfandel is not the typical light fruity drink at all. Instead, it's a dry, dark red, rather peppery and high in tannins. It reminded me of the dark Zin from Elyse wineries.

The wines are fruity? I'm not surprised.
Shannon Apr 13th 2007 7:25AM
Martin, you have given me my first laugh of the day.

A day without wine is like a day without sunshine. I know I dont know .

Suzan...not sure what Zinfandels you are used to drinking but the 'typical' zinfandel is not light and fruity...unless you are speaking of White Zinfandel, which is pink. These days, when one refers to a Zinfandel, it is red. The typical characteristics of a Zinfandel are spicy, slightly peppery, lots of fuit forwardness (not to be confused with fruity), jammy and usually has a higher alcohol content. I have been in the wine business for over 20 years and I am a wine connoiseur and sommelier.

I saw him once live and he disgusted me. I would NEVER buy wine or any other product from someone who uses the Lord's name in vain.

Barry bad. Maybe when prowess wanes, wine supplants the fame. ("the girls all get prettier at closing time"). It's so sad that fame has to cling to that which causes so much heartache and destruction. Barry bad.

Living within and hour of the Napa Valley, I have been able to taste many excellent wines. However....buying wine from a fruitcake would be a new experience. Barry, stick to singing!

Don't like his music, don't buy any. Dis his wine before tasting it, petty. To have most of these posts about gay bashing--really sad in this day and age. Grow up!
